Who knew Lionel Richie moonlights as an exorcist?<\/p>\n
The \u201cAll Night Long\u201d singer stopped by Kelly Clarkson\u2019s talk show this week to discuss living with grief, nearly two months after the host\u2019s ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, passed away from melanoma<\/a> at the age of 48.<\/p>\n \u201cI do think a lot of people deal with grief in such a different way, but I love that you say, \u2018Grief is the great teacher of what matters most,’\u201d Clarkson, 43, said in a preview for Thursday\u2019s episode of \u201cThe Kelly Clarkson Show.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cAnd I think, no matter how you deal with grief, it is very different for everyone,\u201d she continued. \u201cBut I do find that very, very true. How did you figure that out?\u201d<\/p>\n Richie, 76, went on to explain that grief is not something a person can prepare for, and that the natural emotion can show someone who they \u201creally\u201d are.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a real moment where you can\u2019t phone it in, but at the same time, we rehearse things,\u201d the \u201cHello\u201d singer shared. \u201cYou can\u2019t rehearse grief. You can\u2019t rehearse the loss of your mother, or your father, or your friend.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cAnd so what I\u2019ve found is that when I get involved with \u2018uncontrollable grief,\u2019 I let go,\u201d he continued. \u201cAnd I \u2013\u00a0believe it or not \u2013\u00a0look forward to finding out who I\u2019m gonna be, really, because that\u2019s the real me.\u201d<\/p>\n Clarkson added that grief \u201chits you in waves\u201d and can serve as a \u201crelease\u201d during a particularly tough time in one\u2019s life.<\/p>\n \u201cIf it hurts so badly, that means you loved so deeply,\u201d Richie stated, prompting the \u201cStronger\u201d singer to lean back in her chair and utter, \u201cAww, s\u2013t\u2026 like, come on!\u201d<\/p>\n However, the pair\u2019s candid conversation did not end there, because the \u201cCan\u2019t Slow Down\u201d artist proceeded to approach Clarkson, close his eyes and place a hand on her forehead as if to exorcise the \u201cSince U Been Gone\u201d singer of her own grief.<\/p>\n \u201cBut I can save you, don\u2019t worry,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cI feel healed,\u201d Clarkson, laughing, responded as Richie returned to his seat.<\/p>\n The three-time Grammy winner\u2019s ex-husband passed away on Aug. 7<\/a> following a private, three-year battle with skin cancer.<\/p>\n Clarkson and Blackstock had separated in June 2020<\/a>, and their split was finalized two years later following a nasty divorce battle. They welcomed two children during their nearly seven years of marriage: daughter River Rose, 11, and son Remington Alexander, 9.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away,\u201d Blackstock\u2019s loved ones said in a statement obtained by The Post after his death. <\/p>\n \u201cBrandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years,\u201d they continued. \u201cHe passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family.\u201d<\/p>\n After\u00a0postponing several dates<\/a> of her Las Vegas residency because of Blackstock\u2019s illness, Clarkson is soon set to return<\/a> to the stage.
