Theo Von is opening up about his recent comedy special at New York\u2019s Beacon Theatre after he reportedly struggled to complete his performance, and a viral clip from the night caused concern over his mental health among fans.<\/p>\n
During his new This Past Weekend<\/em> episode<\/a>, the podcaster shared the context leading up to his filmed performance. First, he had started to \u201cself-wean\u201d himself off his antidepressants over the summer since he \u201cwanted to have a little bit more emotion\u201d during his comedy special. Then, while in that process, Charlie Kirk was murdered. Around this time, the Department of Homeland Security used a video <\/a>of Von online to promote their deportations of migrants, which the host previously said he did not approve of. \u201cI had nothing to do with this shit,\u201d Von said. \u201cIt was an intense thing.\u201d All of that in conjunction made him \u201cparanoid,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n More from Rolling Stone<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cLike I had the curtains in my house kind of closed,\u201d Von said. \u201cI woke up the next morning to a text from a high government official saying, \u2018Hey, if you need some extra security in your neighborhood or some extra police cars on patrol, let me know.\u2019 And I\u2019m like, \u2018What? What are you talking about? Extra security? I don\u2019t even know the code to my Ring camera.\u2019 \u2026 It really kind of shook me.\u201d<\/p>\n Von addressed his filmed special, saying it went \u201cmessier\u201d than his past performances and that he was feeling \u201cmildly manic\u201d leading up to the show. The comedian admitted that the special \u201cwasn\u2019t great\u201d and was \u201cchoppy,\u201d but said that there were some people who loved it. Although, Von said he felt \u201coff\u201d during the show.<\/p>\n \u201cPeople wrote articles saying, \u2018This bombed.\u2019 It wasn\u2019t great. I didn\u2019t love it,\u201d Vonn continued. \u201cBut I had a lot of people who said it was great and who loved it. But I didn\u2019t think it was perfect, for sure. But I thought, let\u2019s just look at the edit and see.\u201d<\/p>\n Von also addressed a viral clip of him saying hello to fans after the show, where he said, \u201cI\u2019m having a long month, I\u2019m trying not to take my own life.\u201d In his podcast episode, Von clarified that he did not mean what he said, even if it wasn\u2019t a joking matter. \u201cI would never take my own life,\u201d he said, repeating his statement at the camera.<\/p>\n The podcast host added that he and his team have not yet decided if they\u2019ll shoot the special again, or \u201cwhat\u2019s going on.\u201d Von\u2019s takeaway? \u201cI was fucking in that bitch, cuz. You should\u2019ve seen me, dawg.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWrite what you want, big dog. It wasn\u2019t perfect, I\u2019ll agree to that\u2026 I\u2019ll eat failure for breakfast,\u201d Von explained. \u201cIt\u2019s OK, man. It\u2019s part of the job.
