(FOX40.COM) \u2014 It\u2019s officially showtime in Sacramento! Thursday marked the first day of Aftershock. It\u2019s the West Coast\u2019s largest rock, punk and metal festival.<\/p>\n
FOX40 was there all day long and after observing the crowds, meeting fans and hearing the music blasting, it\u2019s clear the event is every music lover\u2019s dream. Jamie Ross was there to jam out to her favorite musicians.<\/p>\n
\u201cI grew up with my CD player, listening to many of these bands,\u201d Ross said. \u201cSo they all, many of them hold a very dear place in my heart. But I came here to rock out live!\u201d<\/p>\n
Around 160,000 people are expected to show out at Discovery Park throughout the weekend. The event consists of four days of famous acts from all across the country. The lineup boasted artists like Bowling for Soup and Blink 182 \u2014 there are more than 115 bands slated to rock out across four different stages. It\u2019s Garrett Young\u2019s 10th year attending the festival. He told FOX40 all about his love and dedication for the event.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery year we meet new people from all different walks of life, you know?\u201d Young said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s what I really like about it too, is it brings all kinds of different people together. And I meet new friends. I actually got somebody in there that I met last year that\u2019s holding down a spot for me on the stage.\u201d<\/p>\n
FOX40 spoke with fans who lined up for the festival Thursday morning as soon as gates opened. While the weather evolved throughout the day, the festival definitely kicked off with a wet start.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it adds to the experience,\u201d Ross said. \u201cIt is going to be a mudbath in there!\u201d<\/p>\n
Of course, Thursday was just the beginning.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s this electricity in the air and\u2026 a lot of anticipation,\u201d Steve Ritter said. He\u2019s been drumming since he was 18 years old and has a true passion for rock. \u201cIt\u2019s a lot of excitement.\u201d<\/p>\n
Last year was Ritter\u2019s first aftershock experience and \u2014 according to the music enthusiast \u2014 it was nowhere near his last.<\/p>\n
\u201cI still get chills from that show,\u201d Ritter said. \u201cYeah, that\u2019s why I\u2019m here this year, because of my experience last year. And I will come every year from now on.\u201d<\/p>\n
FOX40 asked if he add anything else to add.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust\u2026 Aftershock!!!!!!!!!!\u201d the fan screamed with joy.<\/p>\n
The festival goes through Sunday with different groups scheduled to perform each day.
There is something extra special for Sacramento natives \u2014 the metal band \u201cDeftones\u201d is set to play Friday night \u2014 it\u2019s a hometown show for the Sacramento-formed group.<\/p>\n
