\n Taylor Alison Swift, noted numerologist and superstar performer, has taken a break from sourdough<\/a> to bake up a new album, out now.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cThe Life of a Showgirl\u201d \u2013 Swift\u2019s 12th album, announced at 12:12 a.m. on August 12 \u2013 reunites her with Shellback and Swedish hitmaker Max Martin, the producer who told the Backstreet Boys what way they wanted it <\/a>and helped Kelly Clarkson explain what she\u2019d been up to since U been gone<\/a>. The pair is also behind Swift hits \u201cBad Blood\u201d and \u201cShake it Off.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n The album\u2019s 12 tracks – a mix of breezy pop and literary ballads – have a runtime of about 42 minutes \u2013 brief by Swift\u2019s recent standards. That is, of course, assuming she doesn\u2019t pull a \u201cTortured Poets Department\u201d part two and surprise everyone with another double album mere hours later<\/a>. Would the Internet survive? We\u2019re not sure.\n <\/p>\n

\n Swift described her new music as all \u201cbangers\u201d during her appearance on fianc\u00e9 Travis Kelce\u2019s podcast \u201cNew Heights,\u201d explaining that \u201cThe Life of a Showgirl\u201d is \u201cthe record I\u2019ve been wanting to make for a very long time\u201d and about \u201ceverything that was going on behind the curtain\u201d during her monster Eras Tour.\n <\/p>\n

\n She added that her goal for the new album was to have \u201cmelodies that were so infectious that you\u2019re almost angry at it.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n And infectious they are, but angry? No, ma\u2019am. Here\u2019s a brief tour of your new hyperfixation musical meal.\n <\/p>\n

\n Max Martin and Shellback deliver again
\n<\/h2>\n

\n The album kicks off with \u201cThe Fate of Ophelia,\u201d an uber catchy tune that references Shakespeare and sees our English teacher in fine lyrical form. But hard at work here are Martin and Shellback, who create a tablescape for the musical main course that would make Martha Stewart fume with envy.\n <\/p>\n

\n That is what they do, of course. So seemingly effortlessly that it\u2019s easy to forget how hard \u2013 and, for many, impossible \u2013 it is to make a hit. Much less as many as they collectively have.\n <\/p>\n

\n Swift, Martin and Shellback co-wrote and produced all 12 tracks on \u201cThe Life of a Showgirl,\u201d an album that tells a story that is concise and clear from boppin\u2019 beginning to the showgirl\u2019s final bow in the album\u2019s title track, featuring Sabrina Carpenter.\n <\/p>\n

\n You don\u2019t have to listen too closely to hear the influence of Swift\u2019s romance with Kelce on the album.\n <\/p>\n

\n In fact, the prudes among us might need hand fans.\n <\/p>\n

\n For the rest of us, pull up a chair.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cWood,\u201d in particular, is something of an Alpha male\u2019s version of a sonnet. With lyrics like \u201chis lov\u0435 was the key that opened my thighs\u201d and a mention of \u201cnew heights of manhood,\u201d subtlety was not the goal here.\n <\/p>\n
