Released back in February, it opened its account on sales of 107,124, including 91,133 physical copies, 2,614 downloads and 13,377 sales-equivalent streams. It\u2019s worth noting, too, that of the 12 tracks on The Life Of A Showgirl, one that is sure to generate a mind-boggling amount of streams will be the title track, which features Sabrina Carpenter<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n For an international artist, Swift\u2019s TTPD was the biggest opening week in the UK since Scissor Sisters\u2019 Ta-Dah, which moved 288,167 on debut in 2006.<\/p>\n What is the biggest-selling album of the year to date so far?<\/strong><\/p>\n The best-selling album of 2025 so far actually belongs to a 2024 release: Sabrina Carpenter \u2013 Short N’ Sweet currently stands on sales of 443,496 unit for the year.<\/p>\n For context: The Tortured Poets Department accumulated more than 783,820 sales by the end of December 2024 \u2013 which was the most for any artist release in a calendar year since 2017. It was one of four albums by Swift to finish among the year\u2019s 20 biggest titles (along with 1989 (Taylor\u2019s Version), Lover and Folklore).<\/p>\n What overall number does Taylor Swift need to hit to secure her biggest album ever?<\/strong><\/p>\n Overall, Swift\u2019s best-selling album to date in the UK is the 6x platinum 1989, which stands on staggering sales of 1,927,425 in the UK to date according to OCC figures.\u00a0<\/p>\n What about the singles charts?<\/strong><\/p>\n We’ve spent a lot of time talking albums, but let’s not forget that one of the most exciting things about TLOAS is that it pairs Swift together with Max Martin and Shellback. Lest we forget, this is a combination that\u00a0has previously yielded massive hits such as We Are Never Getting Back Together, 22, I Knew You Were Trouble, Shake It Off, Style, Wildest Dreams, Delicate and Ready For It?\u00a0<\/p>\n Swift has delivered some big No.1s recently. Recently, Music Week<\/em> noted that, after years of consecutive quarterly growth, vinyl sales dipped by 2.8%<\/a> year-on-year in Q2 of this year. Part of the problem being that 2025 was being compared to a 2024 quarter that saw Swift break streaming records with The Tortured Poets Department.\u00a0<\/p>\n Notably, in its opening week, The Tortured Poets Department had physical sales of 180,236 (109,392 CDs, 66,388 vinyl albums, 4,457 cassettes), 10,948 downloads and 78,907 sales-equivalent streams.<\/p>\n Swift\u2019s album also set a new UK record for vinyl sales in a week by any album in the 21st century.
