Republicans, Democrats, liberals, conservatives \u2014 we can\u2019t seem to agree on much of anything these days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">That\u2019s where the power of movies could help bridge that gap, says Annie Roney, founder of <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/irlmovieclub.org\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:the nonprofit In Real Life (IRL) Movie Club;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">the nonprofit In Real Life (IRL) Movie Club<\/a>. And the club\u2019s next movie takes on that political divide head-on at more than 100 U.S. theaters next weekend, including <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pradostadium12.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Bonita Springs\u2019 Prado Stadium 12;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Bonita Springs\u2019 Prado Stadium 12<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cAt the end of the day, we have to be able to live with each other and talk to each other,\u201d Roney says. \u201cAnd we have to be able to disagree.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"mb-4 text-xl font-bold md:text-2xl\">Movie &#8216;My Omaha&#8217; follows filmmaker&#8217;s talks with Trump-loving dad<\/h2>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.myomahafilm.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:2025 documentary \u201cMy Omaha\u201d;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">2025 documentary \u201cMy Omaha\u201d <\/a>follows liberal filmmaker Nick Beaulieu as he returns to his hometown of Omaha, Nebraska, to document its growing racial-justice movement and try talking with his dying, deeply conservative father \u2014 a staunch Donald Trump supporter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cIt&#8217;s a deeply personal documentary made by a filmmaker who grew up in Omaha,\u201d Roney says. \u201cHe dives into trying to have conversations with his father, who&#8217;s on the other side of the political fence as he is. But \u201cMy Omaha\u201d shows how we can maybe find some middle ground.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cIt&#8217;s a kind of a lesson on how we can attempt to understand people who have very different experiences than us,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"mb-4 text-xl font-bold md:text-2xl\">In Real Life Movie Club: Connecting over film, despite political differences<\/h2>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The movie is part of the fledgling In Real Life Movie Club, a national club that showed its first film in September 2024 at about 27 U.S. theaters, Roney says. Now more than 100 movie theaters are taking part in the Sunday, Oct. 12 screening of \u201cMy Omaha.\u201d That includes, for the first time, Bonita\u2019s Prado Stadium 12.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Each $5 screening includes an introduction from the director and suggestions for an after-movie discussion with fellow movie-goers \u2014 either right there in their theater seats, or afterward over dinner or coffee.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cWe build in about 10 minutes at the end of each film before the credits roll for people just to turn around and say &#8216;hi&#8217; to their seatmates,\u201d Roney says. \u201cThey&#8217;ll probably talk about the film, but all we care about is people \u2014 strangers \u2014 make connections and have conversations.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">There\u2019s just something special about seeing a movie at an actual theater and then getting to interact with other audience members afterward, Roney says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cWe don&#8217;t have Q&amp;A&#8217;s after where people are talking at you,&#8221; she says. &#8220;It really is a club for members of the community who are craving these kind of in-real-life experiences. &#8230; I think most people agree that being together and having real-world experiences is always so much more fulfilling and satisfying.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Roney doesn\u2019t expect anything to get solved at these club screenings.
