Stephen Colbert<\/strong> turned his sights on Vice President JD Vance<\/strong> Thursday night, unleashing a pointed X-rated sofa-themed meme after Vance came to the defense of President Donald Trump\u2019s<\/strong> stream of sombrero AI \u201cjokes\u201d mocking Democratic leaders.<\/p>\n Throughout the week, Trump had posted clips targeting House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries<\/strong>, depicting the Democrat in a sombrero<\/a> with mariachi music.<\/p>\n Vance brushed off<\/a> concerns during a White House presser Thursday, telling reporters: \u201cOh, I think it\u2019s funny. The president\u2019s joking and we\u2019re having a good time.\u201d He went further, making a \u201csolemn promise\u201d to end the memes if Jeffries agreed to a shutdown-ending deal with the White House.<\/p>\n That line was enough to give Colbert his opening.<\/p>\n \u201cIf that\u2019s how we\u2019re doing it, JD, then we here at The Late Show<\/em> also enjoy humor,\u201d the host declared.<\/p>\n He proceeded to roll a heavily censored AI animation of Vance humping a sofa while wearing a sombrero in callback to an internet hoax that falsely claimed<\/a> Vance once wrote about such an encounter in his memoir. The rumor, long debunked, was recycled through online memes during the 2024 campaign.<\/p>\n After showing the AI sofa-sex clip, Colbert flipped Vance\u2019s defense of Trump.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re joking,\u201d Colbert told viewers. \u201cWe\u2019re having a good time.\u201d<\/p>\n Offering Vance his own version of the Jeffries bargain, Colbert jabbed: \u201cIf you resign as VP, I won\u2019t keep showing that every chance I get.
