Think of the children. Think of those kids born in 2000 whose fathers took them to see Fever Pitch in theaters on opening night. Who looked up in awe at the big screen and thought, “Wow. That’s THE Jimmy Fallon. A true blue die-hard Red Sox fan. Just like my dad.”

And when Drew Berrymore hopped the outfield fence to sprint across the field of play in the 9th inning of Yankees-Red Sox Game 4 to stop Jimmy Fallon from selling his season tickets… when she looked into his eyes and said, “You love me enough to sell your tickets, I love you enough not to let you.”… from there it was sealed. That young impressionable child, hand-in-hand with Jimmy Fallon, would be a Boston Red Sox fan for life.

Imagine what that man is feeling right now, Jimmy. Probably nothing. Because after seeing that clip of you cheering on the Yankees last night, he probably killed himself.

So if you’re not a true Red Sox fan, Jimmy, then why the hell did you make the film? For MONEY? How absolutely dare you. Apparently celebrity sports fandom means nothing anymore. Apparently rich and famous celebrities living in big cities will just buy awesome tickets to huge important sporting events and cheer for the home team because “it’s really fun”. Well it’s also really disgusting.

Now to be fair to Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Fallon has always been fairly open about how terrible he is…

In my opinion, Rob Lowe cheering on the Dodgers was significantly crazier. Jimmy Fallon made a Red Sox movie for money. He’s an actor. That’s kind of his job. But Rob Lowe was at Dodger Stadium the other night cheering on the Dodgers in their Wild Card series vs the Reds, despite having an extremely well-documented history of Reds fandom. The man was giving full-blown interviews about what it’s like to be a Reds fan in Hollywood. He’s been in full Reds’ gear on the broadcasts of Reds’ games. He used to wear a Reds’ Joe Morgan jersey to sleep. Rob Lowe had willingly volunteered up all that information, and when he beloved Reds came to LA, he had no problem aggressively cheering against them.

What are you doing, Rob?! And of all people… Rob Lowe is the guy who famously wore the NFL logo hat.

It would have been so damn easy! People would have thought the MLB logo hat was so funny that nobody would have even bothered to dig into who he was actually cheering for. He almost has to be filming a movie like Jimmy Fallon was or something. Why else would Rob Lowe bring that on himself? Except I don’t think that’s the case, because even his own brother is calling him out for being a big phony traitor.

The Enquirer – “As soon as our Reds are back in the World Series, he’ll be up on the dugout waving our flag,” actor Chad Lowe said to The Enquirer through a social media message.

“If we let him.”

I have half a mind to think that some of these celebrities don’t actually care about our sports teams as much as we do. It’s almost like they’ll cheer for whoever is convenient for them to cheer for at the time. Who could forget when John Cusak thought he could flip from the Cubs to the White Sox all willy-nilly without feeling the wrath of the Chicago White Sox #1 fan enforcer.

Or when Spike Lee learned just last year that there was also college basketball team who played games at Madison Square Garden sometimes.

Or when Drake attends literally any sporting event ever.

What a bunch of phonies.

All that being said, when you boil down what sports fans are actually mad about, it’s pretty stupid. We’re mad at celebrities for how they choose to consume a piece of entertainment. It’s fun to dunk on the Jimmy Fallons and the Rob Lowes of the world, but beyond that, nobody can actually give a shit who these guys are cheering for. Yeah it’s kinda frustrating to see someone enjoying front row seats cheering on a team that objectively means SO MUCH MORE to you than it does to them. But that’s just a perk of being rich. You can apply that to everything in life. We can’t be giving guys like Jimmy Fallon the power to let that shit actually bother us.

In some ways, these celebrities might have being a sports fan figured out better than all of us. Most sports fans could never bring themselves to do what Jimmy Fallon or Rob Lowe did by switching teams like that. But if you can bring yourself to do it… I mean… it looks like a hell of a lot more fun to be a Dodgers fan than a Reds fan right now. Think how much fun (and how much less stressful) sports would be if we simply didn’t care as much, and were perfectly happy to jump on whatever the hot bandwagon is, and party with the home fans. And when we lost were like, “Aw shucks. Oh well. I’ll be back next year with whatever team looks like the most fun then.”

The problem with that is, the payoff of the Red Sox winning the World Series after 86 years is so much sweeter and more meaningful if you were actually living and dying with them every step of the way. That’s the thing real sports fans have over bandwagon hopping celebrities. If you’re a guy like Jimmy Fallon who can so easily jump ship from the Mets, to the Red Sox, to the Yankees… then that 2004 World Series will NEVER mean as much to him as it does to real-die hards. Sure Jimmy Fallon can have fun during a playoff run cheering for whichever team is hot at the time. But guys like him aren’t getting anywhere close the same level of satisfaction when “their team” wins a championship.

It might look like they do. Because they’re literally professional actors. But the Red Sox winning in 2004 didn’t affect Jimmy Fallon in any real way. If the Yankees win this year, that won’t truly affect him either. And if the Reds win a World Series in 10 years… Rob Lowe is going to regret the hell of jumping ship. He’s hedged his happiness. If the Reds never end up winning anything (which to be honest is probably the case), then maybe that proves to be a smart move. But if they ever do… he’s gonna feel like a real asshole for cashing out early.

‘ The preceding article may include information circulated by third parties ’

‘ Some details of this article were extracted from the following source www.barstoolsports.com ’

That’s fucked up Jimmy Fallon.
