Whenever you hear the term \u201ca star-making performance,\u201d know that nothing personifies it more than Patrick Swayze\u2019s performance as Johnny. The upper-crust guests are served by equally well-heeled staff, except for the entertainment, all of whom are demeaned as working-class stiffs by the hotel management, including Johnny Castle, one of the dancers. That doesn\u2019t stop the immediate chemistry between Baby and Johnny, and even 40 years later, it\u2019s clear why this film caused a sudden spike in dance classes across the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Baby and Johnny bond after Baby fills in for his partner, who had to miss a performance to get an abortion from a back-alley doctor that goes horribly wrong. If that happened, we\u2019d be denied the final moment of <em>Dirty Dancing<\/em>, and Swayze managing to turn \u201cNobody puts Baby in the corner\u201d into one of the greatest quotes of the decade.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Their training scenes take place off where no one at the resort will find them, as they learn to read each other\u2019s bodies and understand how they each move. That means in a modern film, it would be a propulsive montage ending with sultry dance gyrations and not, as it does in <em>Dirty Dancing<\/em>, with Baby looking around to make sure no one can see her before practicing a dip.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Few stars today could be slotted into either of the lead roles, with the only two that could likely pull it off with the same chemistry and smoldering appeal as Patrick Swayze and Jenifer Grey being engaged couple, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.giantfreakinrobot.com\/topic\/tom-holland\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Tom Holland;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">Tom Holland<\/a> and Zendaya. So it makes sense that multiple attempts to replicate the movie\u2019s success have all come up short.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The sequel,\u00a0<em>Dirty Dancing Havana Nights<\/em>,\u00a0is one of the worst movies of all time. A 1988 television series lasted only 10 episodes, and ABC\u2019s live remake in 2017 was rightfully ignored by fans and critics. His performance as Johnny has made women lose their minds for decades and inspired men to take up dancing, leaving a hole that could never be filled.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Hollywood studios today can\u2019t fake chemistry between stars during explicit scenes.
