Online<\/a><\/p>\n Eric Dane<\/a><\/strong>‘s struggles with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)<\/a> caused him to miss out TV’s biggest night.<\/p>\n The actor explained his last-minute absence at September’s Emmys 2025<\/a>, sharing that he wasn’t able to present an award with Grey’s Anatomy <\/em>costar Jesse Williams<\/a> <\/strong>as initially scheduled because he was in the hospital receiving treatment.<\/p>\n \u201cALS is a nasty disease,” he said of the neurodegenerative disorder\u2014commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease\u2014in an interview with The Washington Post<\/em><\/a> published Oct. 2. “So I was in the hospital during the Emmys getting stitches put in my head.”<\/p>\n Because of that, Eric shared, \u201cI missed an opportunity I was really looking forward to.”<\/p>\n “It would have been great to see Jesse and get reunited with some of my peers, and to be able to present in front of my colleagues I thought would have a been special moment,” the 52-year-old continued. “I was a really upset about it, but you know, there was nothing I could do about it.”<\/p>\n Still, Jesse had Eric on his mind<\/a> at the ceremony, where he handed out the prize for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series to Slow Horses<\/em>‘ Adam Randall<\/strong> solo.<\/p>\n “We had a really great run,” Jesse told Live From E!: 2025 Emmys <\/em>of his and Eric’s time on Grey’s Anatomy<\/em>. “We had a great following, and I loved working with him.”<\/p>\n The 44-year-old added, “On and off screen, that’s my brother.”<\/p>\n Eric also knows that he can rely on wife Rebecca Gayheart<\/strong><\/a> as well as their two daughters\u2014Billie<\/strong>, 15, and Georgia<\/strong>, 13\u2014during challenging times.<\/p>\n More from E!
