As a result, Cranbourne car park will be permanently closed from 7pm on Sunday 28 September 2025,\u201d the park management announced.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">In <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk-news\/2025\/oct\/02\/prince-william-eugene-levy-relucant-traveler-change-agenda-when-king\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">an interview<\/a> this week with the Canadian actor Eugene Levy at Windsor Castle for the Apple TV+ series The Reluctant Traveler, William spoke of his desire to protect his family from the press intrusion that he and his brother had experienced as children. Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven, did not have mobile phones, he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">William said of the \u201cinsatiable\u201d media he experienced growing up: \u201cThey wanted every bit of detail they could absorb and they were in everything, literally everywhere. They would know things, they\u2019d be everywhere.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cAnd if you let that creep in, the damage it can do to your family life is something that I vowed would never happen to my family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Forest Lodge, an eight-bedroomed Grade II-listed Georgian mansion, has been chosen by the couple as their \u201cforever home\u201d. There are so many houses they could have chosen, why choose one where the public has to lose such a big chunk of the park for their private benefit,\u201d said Tina, who declined to give her surname. \u201cI am very upset.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">She added: \u201cI do think it\u2019s outrageous, the way it was done. I think it\u2019s a selfish act.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">There is a lot of deference to the royal family in these parts. Some, indeed, believed the royal family owned the Great Park, Tina said. The park, and Forest Lodge, is now owned by the crown estate, a public body whose revenues go to the Treasury. \u201cWhich means it belongs to you and me,\u201d said Tina.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The Waleses are relocating from four-bedroomed Adelaide Cottage four miles away. They also have 10-bedroomed Anmer Hall on the Sandringham estate, 21-roomed Apartment IA in Kensington Palace, London, and Tam-Na-Ghar cottage at Balmoral which was given to the prince by the Queen Mother.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Kensington Palace and the Home Office declined to comment when approached by the Guardian, on the grounds they never discuss security matters. A royal source <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cpwyk1v0p8yo\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">has previously said <\/a>that in recent years the couple have lived through \u201csome really difficult times\u201d at Adelaide Cottage. With Catherine in remission after her cancer diagnosis, the move would afford them a \u201cfresh start and a new chapter\u201d and allow them \u201cto leave some of the more unhappy memories behind\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">While some people in Windsor, including on Facebook, have expressed their frustration, others are more sanguine. One dog walker, Tom Bunn, a mechanical engineer who walks his dog in the park about twice a month, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/royals\/36858054\/prince-william-kate-protected-no-go-area\/\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">told the Sun<\/a>: \u201cI completely understand the safety of William, Kate and their family is paramount so we should make sure they can live happily here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Windsor Great Park has said parking will remain available at Ranger\u2019s Gate car park, \u201clocated just down the road\u201d. This does not affect the vast majority of public access to the park and efforts have been made to reduce the impact on users of the park as far as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">It is not the first time a Windsor estate property for a royal has caused controversy.
