Rawlinson said that large donations from Harry \u2014 such as a \u00a31.2 million payment from the proceeds of his memoir, Spare <\/i>\u2014 had masked \u201cthe fault lines in the financial model which had really been producing losses since 2017\u201d.<\/p>\n
He added: \u201cThose problems can be summarised by saying there was a very narrow but very loyal donor base for the charity. But it also masked the very high level of cost \u2026 where those costs could only be borne by the virtue of the generosity of Prince Harry.\u201d<\/p>\n
The closure of Sentebale\u2019s London office, which was costing \u00a3650,000 a year, was listed in the report as part of its cost-cutting plan. The charity also said it had introduced a code of conduct \u201cfor defining trustees\u2019 acceptable behaviour\u201d in the wake of the scandal.<\/p>\n
Tensions at the charity boiled over after the board challenged Chandauka over a \u00a3400,000 bill for consultants, which they said had brought little return. She was then asked to step down, but instead she complained to the Charity Commission, alleging bullying, misogyny and racism.<\/p>\n
In a Sky News interview, Chandauka accused Harry of trying to \u201ceject\u201d her through \u201cbullying\u201d and \u201charassment\u201d, which he denied.<\/p>\n
The regulator \u201ccriticised all parties\u201d involved in the dispute \u201cfor allowing it to play out publicly\u201d and said it had \u201cseverely impacted the charity\u2019s reputation and risked undermining public trust in charities more generally\u201d.<\/p>\n
Chandauka said on Friday: \u201cAs we reach our 20th anniversary next year, Sentebale is poised to soar, empowering even more children and young people across southern Africa to claim their futures.\u201d<\/p>\n
