Paramount skipped out because they feared the show would compete for eyeballs with the upcoming <em>Starfleet Academy<\/em> series. Now, more details have come to light about the show Paramount will never let us have, and it sounds like the coolest thing to happen to Trek since the premiere of <em>Strange New Worlds<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">According to TrekMovie, Bakula and Sussman never gave up and continued refining their pitch, hoping that it might impress the new network leadership after the Paramount\/Skydance merger. They now envision their show (tentatively titled <em><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.giantfreakinrobot.com\/topic\/star-trek\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Star Trek;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">Star Trek<\/a>: United<\/em>, which is kind of <strong>perfect<\/strong>) as an <em>Andor<\/em>-esque show that focuses on Admiral Archer as the President of the United Federation of Planets. It would feature occasional cameos from legacy <em>Enterprise<\/em> actors and would provide stories the earlier show never got to flesh out, including the Romulan War and its aftermath.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"mb-4 text-lg font-bold\"><strong>Justice For Enterprise<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">All of this sounds amazing to me, someone who didn\u2019t really fall in love with <em>Enterprise<\/em> until the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.giantfreakinrobot.com\/topic\/streaming\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:streaming;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">streaming<\/a> era. Seriously, Season 4 is nothing but big swings that mostly connect.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"mb-4 text-lg font-bold\"><strong>Why We Need Star Trek: United<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Aside from my fanboyism, why do I think <em>Star Trek: United<\/em> is the kind of show that fans have been waiting decades to see? First, it\u2019s copying from a winning formula: the success of <em>Andor<\/em> proves how hungry <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.giantfreakinrobot.com\/category\/ent\/scifi\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:sci-fi;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">sci-fi<\/a> fans are for a show that focuses less on breathless battles and more on killer characterization and political thriller storytelling. Frankly, this would be a much more rewarding approach to prequel storytelling than we\u2019re getting with <em>Strange New Worlds<\/em>, a mostly-solid show that seems unfortunately fascinated with breaking established canon rather than building on what came before.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"mb-4 text-lg font-bold\"><strong>The Map To Avoiding Picard\u2019s Failures<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Now, one thing fans might worry about is that <em>Star Trek: United<\/em> would copy the early <em>Picard<\/em> formula of bringing in legacy characters from <em>Enterprise<\/em> for occasional cameos but otherwise focusing on new, younger characters. To be perfectly blunt, Picard didn\u2019t fail because of its lack of legacy characters\u2026rather, it failed because the writers had no great stories to tell and eventually settled for just making everyone fight the Borg again (sensors are detecting unusually lazy writing, sir!). Mercifully, Star Trek: United seems to have a solid story from the get-go and is designed to be (sorry, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.giantfreakinrobot.com\/topic\/patrick-stewart\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Patrick Stewart;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">Patrick Stewart<\/a>) more than just a vanity project for an aging actor trying to return to his glory days.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"mb-4 text-lg font-bold\"><strong>Qapla\u2019 Scott Bakula!<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">As a lifelong fan, I sincerely wish <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.giantfreakinrobot.com\/topic\/scott-bakula\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Scott Bakula;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">Scott Bakula<\/a> and Mike Sussman success in pitching <em>Star Trek: United<\/em> to Paramount.
