After facing criticism for what multiple fans said was a “rough” Netflix standup special<\/a> taping in New York City<\/a>, Theo Von addressed the reaction and admitted that he’s done better work, while also reassuring fans he would “never” consider taking his own life.<\/p>\n On the latest episode of his podcast, This Past Weekend<\/em>, Theo Von started by addressing all the talk online about the taping.<\/p>\n At around the 19-minute point of the podcast, as seen below, he admitted that he realized that he was \u201coff\u201d that night, and that he struggled to remember some of his material. \u201cI started to feel bad that I wasn\u2019t giving them the best show,\u201d he said. \u201cI went into the second show feeling like, \u2018Okay, I got to figure some of this out.\u2019 I couldn\u2019t tell if people were being, like, legit. Like, \u2018Okay, was it good? Was it bad? What was going on?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n As is common with stand-up special tapings, it was recorded over two different shows. He said he felt as if he was \u201ccooking\u201d during the first 20 minutes of the second show, but then he struggled to remember what material would come next, which was especially difficult because he didn\u2019t have a teleprompter. \u201cI just didn\u2019t feel like myself,\u201d he said. \u201cAt the end of the night, I was like, \u2018I don\u2019t know if we got it.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n COMPLEX SHOP:<\/b> Shop the brands you love, anytime and anywhere. Obsess.<\/a><\/p>\n He then addressed the clip of him casually making a joke about trying not to die by suicide after a \u201clong month,\u201d and wanted to make it clear his fans shouldn\u2019t be worried. \u201cI woke up the next day to, like, a bunch of things like, \u2018Bro, what\u2019s up?\u2019\u201d he recalled. \u201cAnd I was like, \u2018Oh my God\u2026 Did I steal somebody\u2019s horse? Did I hit somebody with a vehicle?\u2019 \u2026 Then a buddy of mine sent me a clip\u2026 Then people were asking me about suicide and I was like, \u2018Oh God.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n He said that he that he understands suicide is not a joke to a lot of people, and he would include himself among those who wouldn\u2019t appreciate something as dark as that. \u201cI would never take my own life,\u201d he affirmed. \u201cI\u2019m grateful to God for his grace in my life. I love my siblings. I have so many friends and people that love me and people that I want to see their children grow up. I\u2019m hopeful that I get to have a wife and meet my own children one day. There\u2019s a ton of things in my life that keep me alive and hopeful, right? I want to be able to have an impact in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n He stressed to his fans that he\u2019s \u201cgoing to have to be alive for a long time,\u201d and he saw all the articles about his \u201crough\u201d stand-up special. \u201cLook, it wasn\u2019t great,\u201d he said. \u201cI didn\u2019t think it was perfect, you know, for sure. But I thought, let\u2019s just look at the edit and see. So we still haven\u2019t decided, we might shoot it again. \u2026 But homie, I was fucking in that bitch, cuz.\u201d<\/p>\n Von also indicated that he would take the experience in stide, because he\u2019s \u201cfailed so many times\u201d in the past. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t perfect, man, I\u2019ll agree to that,\u201d he concluded. \u201cYou full me up with failure flakes over the years, kids. And that\u2019s okay, man. That\u2019s part of the job. The first ten years of doing comedy is failure. So much of my life, the best things that have ever happened in my life have been on the other side of failure.\u201d<\/p>\n Awful Announcing<\/em> editor Ben Koo was among the first to highlight some of the negative reactions to the Netflix special taping.
