Family Guy<\/em> is treating one of its fellow Animation Domination shows to quite the trick this Halloween.<\/p>\n In TVLine\u2019s exclusive sneak peek of Family Guy<\/em>\u2018s Hulu special \u201cA Little Fright Music,\u201d available to stream on Monday, Oct. 6, Chris decides to dress up as Jon Hamm\u2019s character from Fox\u2019s Grimsburg<\/em>. It\u2019s a perfectly constructed costume, down to the titular detective\u2019s blue coat and grisly stubble, only with one slight hiccup \u2014 no one knows who he\u2019s supposed to be.<\/p>\n More from TVLine<\/strong><\/p>\n Watch the exclusive clip below:<\/p>\n Good-natured ribbing is common between these types of shows, and the executive-producing team at Family Guy <\/em>doesn\u2019t seem particularly worried about offending the fine folks at Grimsburg<\/em> \u2014 or anyone else for that matter.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen you have a shared studio, we have the same studio executives, so if they think something is truly a problem, they\u2019ll get clearance,\u201d executive producer Richard Appel tells TVLine. \u201cWe\u2019re often asked [for clearance] when another animated show has a joke about Family Guy<\/em>, but Seth Macfarlane set the rule here. The heavy presumption is that you can say what you want. I can\u2019t remember a time that we\u2019ve said, \u2018no, you can\u2019t do it\u2019 or \u2018you can\u2019t even use a clip of our show,\u2019 just because the First Amendment, as we\u2019ve been reminded lately, matters.\u201d<\/p>\n It\u2019s also worth noting that prior to Family Guy<\/em>\u2018s recent string of Hulu specials, the show only produced three Halloween-specific episodes over the course of 20+ seasons. So, what\u2019s the reason for this holiday hold-out? The answer lies in the legacy of yet another Animation Domination show.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m sure you are a student enough of the primetime animation lineup to know that we wouldn\u2019t exactly be the first to do a Halloween special,\u201d Appel says, referring to The Simpsons<\/em>\u2018 annual \u201cTreehouse of Horror\u201d episodes. \u201cIt felt like they had carved that out as their niche.\u201d It was Hulu who requested the spooky specials, with Appel noting that \u201cthe challenge is to do something different in format.
