(WMTV) &#8211; On this day, October 5, 1928, Memorial Union opened on UW-Madison\u2019s campus.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The Memorial Union was the first union to serve beer at a public university, according to the Memorial Union.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">The journey to open the now-iconic location started about 20 years before opening in 1928.
