PBS<\/a> says its Passport streaming library offers members more than 1,000 episodes of American Experience<\/a><\/em>, American Masters<\/a><\/em>, Antiques Roadshow<\/a><\/em>, Masterpiece<\/a><\/em>, Nature<\/a><\/em>, NOVA<\/a><\/em>, and more of its popular shows. And different streaming services also let newcomers experience PBS hits, too. But some productions from the public broadcaster just aren\u2019t available on PBS Passport or other streamers, no matter how many times we chant \u201cPBS!\u201d (That\u2019s short for \u201cPlease Be Streaming,\u201d obviously.) Here are some of those glaring omissions:<\/p>\n \u201cWhat\u2019s the story, Wishbone? What\u2019s this you\u2019re dreaming up?\u201d Oh, streaming availability? Us, too! For more than 50 episodes, a Jack Russell Terrier named Wishbone (played IRL by Soccer the Dog) introduced kids to classic literature stories, and we\u2019d love to revisiting those retellings.<\/p>\n This show kicked off in 1982 with John Cheever\u2019s \u201cThe Shady Hill Kidnapping\u201d and became the longest-running anthology drama series<\/a> on American television before ending its run in 1996 with Stephen Sondheim<\/a>\u2019s Passion<\/em>. Sadly, the passion hasn\u2019t reached streaming\u2026<\/p>\n Speaking of Sondheim, he and Julie Andrews<\/a>, Joel Grey<\/a>, Audra McDonald<\/a>, and many more stage stars appeared in this six-part docuseries about the Great White Way, winner of the 2005 Emmy for Outstanding Nonfiction Series. If only streaming TV would give its regards to Broadway<\/em>\u2026<\/p>\n Many fans consider 1985\u2019s two-part adaptation of Lucy Maud Montgomery\u2019s classic novel the best version of the story<\/a>. Unfortunately, it\u2019s not currently streaming, so fans will have to find Nova Scotia\u2019s most famous orphan girl elsewhere.<\/p>\n Boy Meets World<\/a><\/em> actor William Daniels<\/a> is one of several actors who have played multiple TV presidents<\/a>, including John Quincy Adams in this miniseries released in 1976 to mark the American Bicentennial. The production got 20 Emmy nominations, but apparently that\u2019s not incentive enough to bring it to streaming\u2026<\/p>\n Science rules. Streaming unavailability drools<\/em>. The Internet Archive currently hosts the complete series<\/a> of Bill Nye<\/a>\u2019s seminal educational program, and YouTubers have uploaded bootleg copies, but it\u2019s not currently streaming on any TV-friendly platform.<\/p>\n This PBS production is considered the first reality TV show, and in 2002, TV Guide Magazine<\/em>\u00a0included it in its list of the 50 Greatest Shows of All Time<\/a>. But streaming TV audiences don\u2019t have the chance to meet the Loud family in this slice of 1970s American life.<\/p>\n A quasi-successor to The Forsyte Saga<\/a><\/em>, this adaptation of Anthony Trollope\u2019s Palliser novels tells another Victorian saga with multiple generations of characters. Ideally, you could stream this show and see who gets to play a character named Plantagenet Palliser, but alas\u2026<\/p>\n \u201cDoes anyone know where you can watch\/stream\/get the original Cosmos<\/a><\/em> with Carl Sagan<\/a>?\u201d one Reddit user asked four years ago<\/a>. Unfortunately, the documentary series about space and time still isn\u2019t streaming, and we hope we won\u2019t have to wait until \u201cThe Edge of Forever\u201d for a platform to pick it up.<\/p>\n Even at 15 hours long, this 1972 production offers a speedier way to experience Leo Tolstoy\u2019s 500,000-word-plus literary epic about Russian aristocracy in the Napoleonic era. And it features a star turn from Sir Anthony Hopkins<\/a>. No Peace<\/em> until this War<\/em> makes it to streaming!<\/p>\nWishbone<\/em><\/h2>\n
