Warning: The below article contains discussions of sexual assault.<\/em><\/p>\n Only after his death did 19 Kids and Counting<\/em> alum Amy Duggar King<\/a> discover the reason her family members kept her way from her grandfather Jimmy Lee Duggar.<\/p>\n Amy opened up about that family secret in a new interview with People<\/a><\/em> as she discussed her debut memoir, Holy Disruptor: Shattering the Shiny Facade While Getting Louder With the Truth<\/em>, due for release on Tuesday, October 14.<\/p>\n The former TLC<\/a> star said that when she was a child, she wasn\u2019t allowed to be alone with Jimmy. \u201cI wondered all the time,\u201d she recalled. \u201cI asked. I asked my mom, I asked my grandma, and they obviously were going to protect the answer. They didn\u2019t want me to know that information growing up.\u201d<\/p>\n But after Jimmy died, Deanna Duggar, Amy\u2019s mom, told her that he was a \u201cpredator,\u201d as Amy explained in the book. \u201cI honestly did not know why until my mom and I spoke after he passed away,\u201d Amy told People<\/em>. \u201cBut I obviously assumed. I always had assumptions as to why, but it was never spoken about.\u201d<\/p>\n Amy added that she knew Jimmy wasn\u2019t allowed to take her to school, watch a movie with her, or play with her on a trampoline. \u201cThere were so many things, and I just knew that that\u2019s how it was,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Also, Amy\u2019s grandmother would lock Amy\u2019s bedroom door every night, and Deanna would check on her as well, Amy said.<\/p>\n Once Amy learned the reason behind those protective measures, she and Deanna \u201csat there and cried\u201d together in an \u201cintense bonding moment\u201d they\u2019d been needing for their entire time together, Amy said.<\/p>\n \u201cI mean, looking back, oh my gosh, I could have been a victim, too,\u201d she added. \u201cIt\u2019s crazy to think it was so close to me in so many ways.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/a> The Biggest Controversies in TLC History<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n Related<\/p>\n Amy\u2019s new book also addresses cousin Josh Duggar<\/a>\u2019s criminal record<\/a>. As People<\/em> recaps, Josh previously admitted to molesting multiple people, including four of his sisters, and he\u2019s currently serving a 13-year prison sentence for receiving and possessing child pornography.<\/p>\n \u201cWriting was the most difficult thing I\u2019ve ever had to do,\u201d Amy told the magazine. \u201cI pushed myself to my limits.
