Rob Halford<\/strong> had a hard time listening to Judas Priest\u2019s duet with Ozzy Osbourne<\/strong> in the weeks following the Black Sabbath legend\u2019s death.<\/p>\n In an October 2025 interview with Billboard<\/a>, Halford, 74, admitted that it took him a while to get through his band\u2019s charity version<\/a> of the 1970 Black Sabbath classic \u201cWar Pigs\u201d that features Osbourne\u2019s original vocals.<\/p>\n \u201cI would get through 30 seconds, and I would just have to switch it off because I was just so overcome with emotion,\u201d Halford said. \u201cTo be in the same experience of that moment with Ozzy was just too much for me, and it was too close. I\u2019m still grieving. It\u2019s still very tough for me because of my friendship and my love for the man. It took me a while to listen to the whole song in one go without any breaks, and now I can.\u201d<\/p>\n Halford revealed that Osbourne was able to hear the finished version of the song just before his death on July 22.<\/p>\n \u201cHe, with Sharon, listened to the final, finished mixing, and he was grinning \u2013 he was smiling and he was very happy,\u201d Halford told the outlet. \u201cThis all came back to us in a note from Sharon, saying he was absolutely thrilled and delighted that we go to do something together musically in this particular way.\u201d<\/p>\n \ud83c\udfa4<\/strong>SIGN UP for our The Voice newsletter to get access to exclusive news, interviews, insider info, sneak peeks & more<\/strong><\/a>\ud83c\udfa4<\/strong><\/p>\n Halford previously told the Full Metal Jackie radio show<\/a> that the idea for the duet-style cover came from Osbourne\u2019s wife and manager, Sharon, after Judas Priest released their first cover of \u201cWar Pigs\u201d<\/a> in early July.<\/p>\n \u201cShe approached me with this idea, she said, \u2018I love your version of \u2018War Pigs.\u2019 Is there a way we can get Ozzy?\u2019\u201d Halford recalled. \u201cI was [like], \u2018You\u2019re asking me? This is gonna happen.\u2019 So you get Ozzy singing a line, and then I\u2019m singing a line, and Ozzy\u2019s singing a line, and I\u2019m singing a line. It\u2019s the first ever time in my entire life that I\u2019ve been able to do a duet with Ozzy, and I\u2019m so eternally grateful and blessed that I was able to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n Halford, who now opens every Priest show with \u201cWar Pigs,\u201d said he cherishes his memories of singing Black Sabbath songs for Osbourne. In August, he told Ultimate Classic Rock<\/a> he subbed for Ronnie James Dio during a Sabbath tour, with Osbourne giving his approval from the wings. He also filled in for Osbourne when the rocker lost his voice during Ozzfest in 2004.<\/p>\n \u201cI just have the wonderful memories of the two opportunities I was able to sing for him with Sabbath. And then this recent opportunity to cover \u2018War Pigs,\u2019 which we still play at the start of our show,\u201d Halford said on the Talkin\u2019 Rock With Meltdown podcast<\/a> last month.<\/p>\n Halford revealed that he \u201ccurled up in a ball and bawled [his] eyes out for hours\u201d after receiving the news of Osbourne\u2019s death in July, less than three weeks after the singer\u2019s Back to the Beginning farewell show in England. \u201cI just couldn\u2019t believe it,\u201d Halford said. \u201cI still can\u2019t believe it now.
