Miley Cyrus has recalled how Billy Ray Cyrus cried when she presented him with an emotional new song.<\/p>\n
Last month, the pop star unveiled a track titled Secrets, which she recorded with former Fleetwood Mac members Mick Fleetwood and Lindsey Buckingham, and an accompanying music video.<\/p>\n
In a statement, Miley revealed she penned the song as a “peace offering” to her father Billy amid their recent reconciliation, as they had been estranged for several years.<\/p>\n
“My dad cried. Everyone I say that to, they go, ‘I remember when my dad cried,'” she said during an interview for CBS News Sunday Morning. “You don’t see your dad cry a lot… I don’t know if I’ve seen my dad cry since his dad passed away. My dad, you know, I just haven’t really seen that.”<\/p>\n
In August, Billy shared a preview of Secrets via his Instagram account and revealed that Miley had sent him the track as a gift for his 64th birthday.<\/p>\n
The Flowers hitmaker went on to note that Secrets brought about “mixed emotions, because there’s things that for us – me and my dad – we just kind of moved forward”.<\/p>\n
“We didn’t feel that there needed to be a whole conversation, because him and I just communicate better through song,” the 32-year-old continued. “And so, once he got the song, it feels like it said something in a couple of minutes that would have taken, you know, maybe a family with a more structured, therapeutic dynamic a lot of sessions. But instead of us doing sessions, we just do studio sessions, and we send a song, and we say, ‘I love you.’ And that feels peaceful for us.”<\/p>\n
Elsewhere in the chat, Miley insisted she doesn’t “think there should be any judgment to how people make peace”.<\/p>\n
“I think if you need that kind of guidance… and I think it’s important to talk about it,” she added. “But with me and my dad, we just have always communicated better through music with each other.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
