Because of that, you might think that Paramount is trying to avoid replicating that show\u2019s mistakes while trying to relaunch Star Trek after the merger with Skydance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">That controversial show could still save the franchise if Paramount would embrace Bryan Fuller\u2019s original <em>Discovery<\/em> pitch and create an anthology show akin to <em>American Horror Story<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"mb-4 text-lg font-bold\"><strong>Somehow, Star Trek Returned<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><em>Star Trek: Discovery<\/em> was a show that focused unabashedly on a single character as she climbed the ranks from disgraced officer to captain of the most advanced ship in Starfleet. Some fans didn\u2019t like that the show completely revolved around Michael Burnham\u2019s character, feeling that this premiere NuTrek show would have been stronger if it (like all the franchise entries before it) revolved around more of an ensemble cast. And plenty in the fandom disliked the darker tone of this show, one which threatened to pervert the historically chill vibes of Starfleet and the Federation.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"mb-4 text-lg font-bold\"><strong>Paramount Fumbled The Perfect Star Trek Show<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Weirdly enough, most of these complaints would have been completely moot if <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.giantfreakinrobot.com\/topic\/paramount-2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Paramount;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">Paramount<\/a> had stuck with the original plan for <em>Discovery<\/em>, as conceived of by ousted showrunner Bryan Fuller. They proceeded to create a more traditional <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/articles\/ranking-everything-star-trek-including-215224714.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Star Trek show;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\">Star Trek show<\/a> that stuck with the same ship and crew for their very own five-year mission. But now is the perfect time to dust off Fuller\u2019s idea and use it to kickstart a new generation of everyone\u2019s favorite franchise.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Now that Paramount has completed its merger with Skydance and is looking to relaunch this franchise in a big way, it\u2019s time to embrace Fuller\u2019s idea and create a Star Trek anthology show. The beauty of this approach is that it cheats the streaming system in the same way that <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.giantfreakinrobot.com\/topic\/captain-kirk\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Captain Kirk;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">Captain Kirk<\/a> once infamously cheated the Kobayashi Maru test. Instead of getting <strong>one<\/strong> Trek show that fans would either love or hate for the next half-decade, we could basically have a new show <strong>each year<\/strong>, with the anthology format lending itself to fresh characters and even fresher adventures.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"mb-4 text-lg font-bold\"><strong>Back to the Future (And Past)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Furthermore, Paramount seems torn about when Star Trek should take place, which is why they are working on both a <em><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.giantfreakinrobot.com\/topic\/star-trek-starfleet-academy\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Starfleet Academy;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">Starfleet Academy<\/a><\/em> show set in the 32nd century and an origin movie set in the 21st century. Bryan Fuller originally wanted <em>Discovery<\/em> to be an anthology show that jumped across different eras, ranging from <em>The Original Series<\/em> to <em>Deep Space Nine<\/em> and beyond. Reading between the lines, it seems like the cost of cranking out so many NuTrek shows at once was just too much for the network.
