While each follow-up season of True Detective featured several big names leading the charge, it was the first season with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harren that truly carved its place in television history. If there is ever a version of the show that recasts Matthew and Woody\u00a0as Rustin Cohle and Martin Hart, respectively, it\u2019s a no-brainer that we will have yet another iconic season that would be worth the wait of over a decade.<\/p>\n
With a fifth season in development \u2013 possibly Nicholas Cage taking the charge \u2013 there is still hope for Rust and Martin in the future. Recently, Matthew McConaughey teased the possibility of returning to his iconic role, but with one important condition: the script must have that \u201cfire and originality.\u201d<\/p>\n
While the show\u2019s creator, Nic Pizzolatto, has reportedly discussed the idea, McConaughey admitted he hasn\u2019t seen the scripts yet. \u201cThere\u2019s excitement, yes, but I haven\u2019t seen a script yet,\u201d he said. (via NME<\/a>)<\/p>\n He also emphasized that the trajectory for Rust and Martin should surpass what they pulled off in the first season. \u201cWe\u2019re keen on the idea but it\u2019s nothing more than an idea. If Nic puts something on paper that Woody and I think is good enough, it wouldn\u2019t even be a choice. We would look at it and go, \u2018it must happen\u2019. It\u2019s gotta be damn good though because we set a pretty good precedent!\u201d<\/p>\n True Detective Season 1 won six Primetime Emmy Awards, received three major Golden Globe nominations, and won a BAFTA TV Award for Best International TV Series.<\/p>\n
