NEW YORK (AP) \u2014 It’s the life of a saleswoman. Taylor Swift’s<\/a> 12th studio album, \u201cThe Life of a Showgirl,\u201d<\/a> sold 2.7 million copies in traditional album sales \u2014 which include physical and digital formats \u2014 in its first day in the U.S. That’s according to Luminate, an industry data and analytics company.<\/p>\n The album was released Friday.<\/p>\n The sales are impressive for a number of reasons. Taylor Swift<\/a> has broken her record for most first week sales… in one day. Her last album, 2024’s \u201cThe Tortured Poets Department,\u201d amassed 2.61 million<\/a> equivalent album units in the U.S. in its first week.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Life of a Showgirl\u201d<\/a> has also become the second-largest sales week for any album in the modern era, since Luminate began tracking sales in 1991. That was also accomplished in just one day.<\/p>\n Currently, Adele’s \u201c25,\u201d<\/a> which sold 3.378 million copies in its first week in 2015 in the U.S., holds the top spot.<\/p>\n Also, according to Luminate, \u201cThe Life of a Showgirl\u201d has already broken the record for the most copies of a vinyl album sold in a single week in the U.S., with 1.2 million copies. The previous record holder? \u201cThe Tortured Poets Department,\u201d<\/a> which sold 859,000 copies<\/a> on vinyl in its first week.<\/p>\n Swift’s many variants may have something to do with the album’s economic success. One of her major partners, Target<\/a>, carries three CD variants, titled as \u201cIt\u2019s Frightening,\u201d \u201cIt\u2019s Rapturous\u201d and \u201cIt\u2019s Beautiful\u201d editions. There is also an exclusive vinyl release, \u201cThe Crowd Is Your King\u201d edition in \u201csummertime spritz pink shimmer vinyl.\u201d<\/p>\n There are a number of other vinyl variants as well: \u201cThe Tiny Bubble in Champagne Collection,\u201d \u201cThe Baby That\u2019s Show Business Collection,\u201d \u201cThe Shiny Bug Collection,\u201d and the standard LP and cassette, in \u201csweat and vanilla perfume Portofino orange vinyl.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n Artwork varies throughout, likely inspiring diehard fans to pick up multiple copies.<\/p>\n And most recently, on Saturday, Swift announced four new CD variants featuring acoustic renditions of the album’s tracks. Each edition features two different stripped-down recordings.<\/p>\n
