As you\u2019ll learn, Blythe comes from a very powerful family, and I\u2019m sure that there were expectations that he would aspire to great things and not necessarily, not that it\u2019s not a great thing, but that he chose to follow in his father\u2019s footsteps as opposed to all the opportunities that were probably showered on him I\u2019m sure drives some people crazy, but that\u2019s part of his love for his dad that has made him want to be following his footsteps.<\/p>\n
What can you tease about how bringing in Blue into the situation changes Don and Ryan\u2019s relationship?<\/strong><\/p>\nWell, I mean, you got to put yourself in those shoes. Talk about a shocker, to find out you\u2019re in your mid-20s, that you have a brother that you never knew of, and that your parents have never spoken of is a bit of a shock, to say the least. So I think there\u2019s going to be some damage control we\u2019ll work on there.<\/p>\n
How good are they at compartmentalizing the family stuff and then the professional when they\u2019re on a call when it\u2019s life and death?<\/strong><\/p>\nI think that once people get over anger and shock and give people a chance to explain themselves if there\u2019s valid reasons or explanations for things, I think people can be more understanding or as opposed to something that was maybe just reckless and is hard to explain. So hopefully they can work things out.<\/p>\n
What can you say about Don and Dixie\u2019s relationship in the past and in the present?<\/strong><\/p>\nThey have a lot of history, which it\u2019s funny, we\u2019re about halfway through the season filming it, I just learned a lot about that history recently. But there is a long history and there was a real bond there and she has been a big part of his life.<\/p>\n
What about in the present? Is that a threat to Don and Blythe\u2019s marriage, and if so, how much?<\/strong><\/p>\nWell, we\u2019ll have to see.<\/p>\n
There\u2019s clearly this rivalry between Blythe and Dixie that we\u2019re getting tastes of in the promos. Can you say how much that is about who Don is to them, how much that has to be about having to be in each other\u2019s lives because of Blue and Don, and how much it\u2019s something else that we just don\u2019t know?<\/strong><\/p>\nI think that when someone\u2019s chosen or not chosen, that hurt can take a long time to go away. I think that nobody likes to be spurned or second choice to somebody, and so I don\u2019t know, that can be a tough thing to kind of bounce back from.<\/p>\n
The trailer hints at Blue and Dixie having some sort of plan. What can you say about how much Don trusts Blue at the beginning of the series?<\/strong><\/p>\nI think he does as much as he can. I mean, he really wants to because I think that there\u2019s a lot of regret that he hasn\u2019t been a bigger part of his life all these years, and so he\u2019s hoping for the best. But again, this is someone that, it\u2019s a grown man that he doesn\u2019t know here, so he\u2019s dealing with that.<\/p>\n
Who\u2019s the bigger blind spot for him, Ryan or Blue?<\/strong><\/p>\nWell, there\u2019s no blind spot for \u2014 I mean, he knows Ryan every inch of Ryan and knows him well, but this is a lot, this news is a lot for anyone to digest. So it\u2019s something that\u2019s been weighing on him. He knows this day was going to come. He knows this is something he was going to have to face and it\u2019s been eaten away at him. And I think that there\u2019s almost a moment of relief for Don that is dramatic as this is, it finally came to a head. What can you preview about the first major rescue of Don\u2019s that we\u2019ll see on screen?<\/strong><\/p>\nIt\u2019s very musical. It\u2019s very windy and rainy. There\u2019s a lot going on.<\/p>\n
But Don is the type to be the first one to leap into action?<\/strong><\/p>\nWell, he is their leader. He\u2019s got to lead them into action and direct traffic, so to speak. It\u2019s all part of the team. The captain\u2019s there to kind of direct traffic, tell people where to go. But sometimes there\u2019s moments where the captain has to step up and really get into mix and lead the charge.<\/p>\n
Music is very much part of the show. That\u2019s something new from the other 9-1-1<\/em>s. Will we see you singing?<\/strong><\/p>\nNot that I know of. [Laughs<\/em>] Let\u2019s hope not.<\/p>\nWould you be open to it?<\/strong><\/p>\nNo, I\u2019m going to let \u2014 there\u2019s some really good singers in this crew. I\u2019m going to let them handle that.<\/p>\n
There\u2019s this big firenado kicking off 9-1-1: Nashville<\/em>. What can you preview?<\/strong><\/p>\nYeah, I didn\u2019t know it was actually a real thing, to be honest with you. I was kind of laughing. I was like, \u201cWhat the hell is a firenado?\u201d And they said, \u201cYeah, look it up.\u201d And of course, there are the videos on YouTube, like everything else and filming down there, living down there, it\u2019s some serious weather, I have to say. I mean, I\u2019ve seen more lightning and storms come through in the short time we\u2019ve been there than I have in years. We just don\u2019t get that in California. But yeah, I think I would duck and cover if I saw a firenado coming.<\/p>\n
