Remember back in 2022 when you settled in to watch House of the Dragon<\/em>\u2018s first episode<\/a>? Here was a fresh start after Game of Thrones<\/em>\u2018 disappointing final season. A clean slate, a new cast, a new (earlier) era of Westeros. But\u2026 the exact same<\/em> Ramin Djawadi<\/a> theme song?<\/p>\n It made sense on some level\u2014it\u2019s an awfully catchy bit of music\u2014but it also felt a little bit repetitive. Good news for people hoping A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms<\/em><\/a> will try something different: HBO\u2019s latest journey to Westeros will not only not<\/em> use that same opening theme, it won\u2019t even have a theme at all.<\/p>\n Speaking to Entertainment Weekly<\/a>, showrunner Ira Parker explained why that choice was made. It\u2019s a way right from the start to let viewers know that this series is far more scaled down than Game of Thrones<\/em> and House of the Dragon<\/em>. Rather than the massive canvas both of those shows occupy, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms<\/em> keeps a tight focus on Dunk and Egg, the characters who star in the George R.R. Martin stories it\u2019s adapted from.<\/p>\n \u201cAll decisions came down to Dunk, trying to channel the type of person he is into every aspect of this show, even the title sequence,\u201d Parker said. \u201cThe title sequences on the original [Game of Thrones<\/i>] and\u00a0House of Dragon<\/i> are big and epic and incredible. Ramin Djawadi\u2019s score is orchestral and large and beautiful. That\u2019s not really Dunk\u2019s MO. He\u2019s plain and he\u2019s simple and he\u2019s to-the-point. He doesn\u2019t have a lot of flash to him.\u201d<\/p>\n Parker also said that unlike those other Westeros-set shows, which revolve around all the drama associated with fighting over who will get to claim the Iron Throne, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms<\/em>\u2014which is set 50 years after House of the Dragon<\/em>, making it a later prequel to Game of Thrones<\/em>\u2014will keep its perspective pointed away from the upper classes. \u201cTo find a totally different version of this world that everybody seems to know so well was very, very appealing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n There aren\u2019t any dragons left by the time A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms<\/em> rolls around. (Obviously, it takes place some time prior to the emergence of a certain Mother of Dragons.) \u201cThe fact that we live in this world, though, where magic once existed is very interesting to me,\u201d Parker said. \u201cThis is the ground and the grass that has seen dragons and dragon fire before. So everything is just like<\/i>\u00a0how the world is, but a little stranger, a little different.\u201d<\/p>\n A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms<\/em> is having a New York Comic Con panel later this week, so presumably we\u2019ll be learning a lot more\u2014like its exact arrival date in 2026, for starters.<\/p>\n Want more io9 news?
