Michelle Pfeiffer is revealing the bloody moment that Al Pacino was convinced she was perfect for the role of Elvira in 1983\u2019s Scarface<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Oscar-nominated actress recently went on the SmartLess\u00a0podcast<\/a>, hosted by Will Arnett,\u00a0Jason Bateman and\u00a0Sean Hayes, to recall her lengthy audition process for the Brian De Palma-directed film. She said that while the filmmaker wanted her for the part, Pacino didn\u2019t feel the same way at first.<\/p>\n More from The Hollywood Reporter<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cAl will admit this,\u201d she said, \u201c[but] he didn\u2019t really want me for the part.\u201d<\/p>\n The Age of Innocence actress recounted meeting De Palma and the casting director and crushing her first audition for the movie. However, \u201cover the course of two months, I just [got] worse and worse and worse, because I\u2019m just\u00a0afraid. And by the end, I\u2019m bad.\u201d<\/p>\n Pfeiffer admitted she didn\u2019t \u201cblame\u201d Pacino for his initial reaction. \u201cHe just was like, \u2018[She\u2019s] bad.\u2019 And Brian finally comes to me and says, \u2018You know, doll, it\u2019s just not gonna work out. I\u2019m like, \u2018I know, man. I\u2019m sorry.\u2019 Because Brian really wanted me,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n \u201cAs disappointed as I was,\u201d the Batman Returns star continued, \u201cI was so happy to be done with it. So, like, at least a month goes by and I get a call, they want to bring me in to screen test. So I show up and I don\u2019t even give a shit, \u2019cause I know I\u2019m not getting this part.\u201d<\/p>\n But to Pfeiffer\u2019s surprise, the screen test, which she recalled was the \u201crestaurant scene where I explode at the end,\u201d ended up being \u201cmy best work of the film.\u201d<\/p>\n Though it was a bloody accident during the audition that ultimately scored her the role. \u201cI swipe the table of the dishes and glasses break, the dishes break, cut. There\u2019s blood everywhere. They all run over to me, to see where I\u2019ve cut myself. Well, I didn\u2019t cut\u00a0me. I cut Al,\u201d she recalled, adding that she \u201ccut him in the finger or something.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI thought, \u2018Well, there goes\u00a0that\u00a0part.\u2019 [But] actually I think that was the day [Pacino] was like, \u2018Yeah, yeah. I think, yeah, she\u2019s not bad,’\u201d Pfeiffer added.<\/p>\n The 1983 crime classic follows determined, criminal-minded Cuban immigrant Tony Montana (Pacino), who becomes the biggest drug smuggler in Miami and is eventually undone by his own drug addiction.
