Sherri Shepherd<\/a> has urged Saturday Night Live<\/a> to hire another Black woman after the exit of long-time cast member Ego Nwodim<\/a>, who was the iconic sketch show<\/a>\u2018s only Black female cast member.<\/p>\n On Monday\u2019s (October 6) episode of Sherri<\/a>, the daytime talk show host told her audience she watched SNL this weekend and noticed \u201csomething was missing,\u201d pointing out how Nwodim was no longer part of the show.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd she was their only Black female cast member, so now there are no Black women on\u00a0SNL,\u201d Shepherd continued. \u201cSo what do I say to\u00a0SNL? Y\u2019all gotta hurry up, and you gotta find somebody \u2014 this is a break glass in case of an emergency. It\u2019s so important. We got to have representation on that show.\u201d<\/p>\n Shepherd recalled how, when she was co-hosting The View<\/a> from 2007 to 2014, SNL didn\u2019t have any Black women on the cast, so when they spoofed the ABC talk show, Kenan Thompson<\/a> would play Whoopi Goldberg<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cThere was no Black woman to play me,\u201d she said, adding with a laugh, \u201cThey had the nerve when Tracy Morgan<\/a> guest-hosted, Tracy played me.\u201d<\/p>\n She added, \u201cSo, SNL I\u2019m trying to understand, I know Ego\u2019s just leaving, [and you\u2019re] trying to get your bearings, but you got to replace Ego. I don\u2019t like hearing, \u2018We can\u2019t find anybody\u2019\u2026 There are lots of talented Black female comics that you can cast on SNL.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIf you go to any comedy club or improv place, they are out there waiting for this opportunity,\u201d she stated. Shepherd even name-checked some potential replacements, including Tacarra Williams, B-Phlat, and Yamaneika Saunders<\/a>.<\/p>\n Nwodim announced her departure from the long-running variety series back in September. She was one of several stars to leave ahead of Season 51, alongside Heidi Gardner<\/a>,\u00a0Devon Walker<\/a>,\u00a0Emil Wakim<\/a>, and\u00a0Michael Longfellow<\/a>. Writers Celeste Yim and\u00a0Rosebud Baker<\/a>\u00a0also confirmed their exit from the series.<\/p>\n \u201cThe hardest part of a great party is knowing when to say goodnight,\u201d Nwodim said at the time. \u201cWeek after week on that stage taught me more than I could have ever imagined, and I will carry those memories, and that laughter, with me always.\u201d<\/p>\n
