Elisabeth Moss<\/strong> has revealed that she almost passed on the opportunity to act in Shell <\/strong>due to her surprise pregnancy. During a recent interview, she recalled her conversation with the movie\u2019s director, Max Minghella, who\u2019s also her co-star from The Handmaid\u2019s Tale.<\/p>\n During an interview with Parade<\/a>, The Handmaid\u2019s Tale star recalled finding out that she was pregnant a few months before shooting for Shell began. Moss shared how the conversation went with the movie\u2019s director, Max Minghella.<\/p>\n \u201cI had to call. He was one of the first people I told that I was pregnant,\u201d she recalled. \u201cWe had to talk about the movie. I had to tell him because I had to be like, \u2018I can\u2019t do the movie. I\u2019m so sorry. I don\u2019t know what to tell you, but it\u2019s not going to happen.\u2019 And he said, \u2018What do you mean?\u2019 And I was like, \u2018Well, I\u2019m pregnant.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n While Moss believed that she was delivering the bad news, Minghella took the news in a positive way. \u201cAfter, of course, much conversation about that, he said, \u2018Well, what do you mean you can\u2019t do the movie?\u2019\u201d the Emmy-winning actress shared. \u201cAnd I said, \u2018What do you mean, can I?\u2019 And he said, \u2018Yeah, let\u2019s talk about this.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n The two then reworked the film\u2019s shooting schedule as Moss was in her second trimester at the time. Moss said, \u201cObviously, I wasn\u2019t my normal body shape. So we had to think, \u2018OK, how does that affect the character? Does that affect the story?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n The Invisible Man actress continued to state how her pregnancy helped shape her character, Samantha Lake, in the movie. She said, \u201cIt was kind of perfect because, obviously, the movie deals with female image in Hollywood, and female expectations, and how you\u2019re supposed to look as an actress, and what\u2019s considered beauty, and this kind of old-fashioned construct.\u201d<\/p>\n She further added, \u201cWe didn\u2019t want to make it about weight or body shape or body size. That wasn\u2019t what the shell treatment does. It\u2019s not a weight-loss treatment.
