Nick Gehlfuss<\/a> is back on\u00a0Chicago Med<\/a><\/em> for more than one episode, starting with the milestone 200th<\/a> on Wednesday, October 8, but you\u2019ll be able to see him on TV again soon after that. He\u2019s part of the cast of the new CBS drama,\u00a0CIA<\/a><\/em>, an offshoot of\u00a0FBI<\/a><\/em> premiering early next year.<\/p>\n CIA<\/em> follows two unlikely partners: a fast-talking, rule-breaking loose cannon CIA case officer (Tom Ellis<\/a>) and a by-the-book, seasoned, and smart FBI agent who believes in the rule of the law (Gehlfuss). Operating out of CIA\u2019s New York Station, the two must learn to work together to investigate cases and criminals posing threats on U.S. soil. Their differences may actually be their strength.<\/p>\n When TV Insider spoke with Gehlfuss about his\u00a0Med<\/em> return<\/a>, we also asked about his\u00a0CIA<\/em> character, Bill Goodman.<\/p>\n \u201cHis name is Bill and not Will. It\u2019s such a hard stretch to go from a Will to a Bill. You have no idea,\u201d Gehlfuss said with a laugh. \u201cHe is a by the book FBI agent, so, very much different than Will going by his own rules. And he is teamed up with essentially a Will Halsted of the CIA, played by Tom Ellis. And so it is a wonderful collision of the odd couple in a way. And yeah, please tune into that. If you like Will, you\u2019ll love Bill.\u201d<\/p>\n There are already three other shows in the\u00a0FBI<\/em> world \u2014 the original plus two spinoffs, Most Wanted<\/a><\/em> and International<\/em><\/a>, both of which were canceled earlier this year.\u00a0CIA<\/em> has\u00a0\u201ca very different style of storytelling, with cases coming from the CIA world as well as the FBI, but [it\u2019s] mostly the relationship between the two main leads,\u201d showrunner and executive producer David Hudgins<\/a> told us<\/a> in May.<\/p>\n \u201cThe dynamic between these two is what I hope will be the hook of the show. A-stories and \u2018crimes of the week\u2019 are always crucial but with CIA<\/em>, we have this added layer of relationship between our two main \u2018odd-couple\u2019 characters,\u201d he continued. \u201cI think people will want to tune in to see what\u2019s going to happen next with these two, because there will be many ups and downs.\u201d<\/p>\n
