Taylor Swift\u2019s new album The Life of a Showgirl<\/em><\/a>\u00a0<\/em>explores many themes, from the pitfalls of fame to dealing with a frenemy \u2014 but one track off the orange-coded new work may be her most risque song yet. Titled \u201cWood,\u201d the song is all about Swift\u2019s romance with a man whom she loves and adores \u2014 and, um, not just for his mind.<\/p>\n The upbeat pop tune starts off with Swift singing about all the ways she\u2019s wished for love in the past \u2014 on falling stars, picking daisies until they\u2019re \u201cbare naked\u201d and, of course, by knocking on wood. She even references a lover she took back, until she \u201cstepped on a crack\u201d and a \u201cblack cat laughed\u201d \u2014 a nod to superstitions about bad luck. But with her current paramour, they\u2019re forever \u201cdancing in the dark,\u201d where it\u2019s \u201call good.\u201d As Swift sings in the chorus, she no longer has to \u201cknock on wood.\u201d<\/p>\n Romantic, right? The sexy part comes next. \u201cForgive me, it sounds cocky \/ He (ah!)matized me \/ And opened my eyes \/ Redwood tree \/ It ain’t hard to see \/ His love was the key \/ That opened my thighs,\u201d<\/em> Swift sings on the track.<\/p>\n And it gets raunchier, with \u201cGirls, I don\u2019t need to catch the bouquet \/ To know a hard rock is on the way \/ And baby, l admit I’ve been a little superstitious \/ The curse on me was broken by your magic wand.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n In case there was any doubt as to who this song was about, Swift then goes on to declare that her lover is reaching \u201cNew heights of manhood\u201d \u2014 which we can safely assume is a nod to her now fianc\u00e9, Travis Kelce<\/a>. Kelce and his brother Jason cohost a podcast called \u201cNew Heights,\u201d where Swift announced her new album on Aug. 12<\/a>.<\/p>\n Swift spoke about the song on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon<\/em><\/a>, telling the host that she brought the track into the studio with producers Max Martin and Shellback in hopes that they could create a “timeless” sounding song.<\/p>\n “I had this idea about having to ‘knock on wood,’ and all these superstitions,” she recalled. “And it really started out in a really innocent place. You know, it started out \u2014 I don’t know what happened, man. I got in there, and we started vibing, and I don’t know how we got here but…I love the song so much.”<\/p>\n Swift also spoke about her mom Andrea Swift’s reaction to the eyebrow-raising track in an Oct. 6 episode of SiriusXM\u2019s Morning Mash Up<\/em><\/a>. \u201cShe thinks that the song is about superstitions, which it absolutely is,\u201d the singer explained. \u201cThat\u2019s the joy of the double entendre. You can read that song for people, and it just goes right over their heads.\u201d<\/p>\n Kelce, for his part, has been enormously supportive of the album on the New Heights <\/em>podcast. In addition to helping Swift reveal the new album, he gushed over Showgirl<\/em> in an Aug. 27 episode, which came one day after the couple announced their engagement via an Aug. 26 Instagram post<\/a> that was captioned \u201cYour English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.\u201d<\/p>\n “I keep listening to this album,\u201d the Kansas City Chiefs player told his brother, joking that he knew he was \u201cpoking the bear\u201d with Swifties eager to hear the new songs. \u201cI know she mentioned that it\u2019s gonna be a lot more pop beats, but it\u2019s just still so poetic in her melodies and her references and stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n While \u201cWood\u201d may reference the New Heights <\/em>podcast, Kelce said his favorite song \u2014 at least of that moment \u2014 was actually \u201cOpalite.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
