TULARE, Calif. (KFSN) — <\/span>Changes could be coming to Tulare in a few years.<\/p>\n The City manager and local leaders have been working on this Entertainment District Proposal.<\/p>\n It would include a large commercial area.<\/p>\n With dining, shopping, hotels and entertainment on approximately 100 acres located off of Highway 99, along LaSpina, and south of Paige Avenue.<\/p>\n “That project could include a variety of indoor recreation activities and we are also talking about a sports park connected to it,” says Marc Mondell, City Manager of Tulare.<\/p>\n The cost would be millions of dollars.<\/p>\n The goal is to use TOT, or visitor tax dollars to make the project happen.<\/p>\n Mondell says he has been involved in similar projects before that were successful.<\/p>\n “It would probably be a year from now, if everything went the way we would hope, that we would have contracts with firms to do the projects, so they would take at least another year, so you are looking at at least 2 years before any kind of ground breaking at the earliest,” Mondell explains.<\/p>\n Jennifer Gomez is the Executive Director of Economic Development and Redevelopment in Tulare.<\/p>\n She says the goal is to help attract visitors to the town and accommodate thousands during World Ag Expo week.<\/p>\n But most importantly, create a healthy economy for generations to come.<\/p>\n Jennifer Gomez mentions, “We have a young workforce here in Tulare so providing these job opportunities is going to be sustainable in the long term for generations because we have the workforce that is going to be here a long time.”<\/p>\n The Entertainment District will be discussed at an upcoming city council meeting on October 21.
