Tuesday\u2019s episode of High Potential<\/em> was a \u201cnice surprise\u201d for actress Judy Reyes, even if things didn\u2019t quote go her character\u2019s way.<\/p>\n The hour began with Soto nervously awaiting word on her potential promotion to captain, a position she has more than earned. Unfortunately, she learned that her superiors passed her over for another white man. And while she successfully masked her frustration during office hours, Morgan caught her mentor in a particularly vulnerable moment at the end of the night, using a friendly drink to pry out Soto\u2019s true feelings.<\/p>\n More from TVLine<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s really hard, isn\u2019t it?\u201d Reyes tells TVLine. \u201cAnd then she has to put up with all that comes with this new person, this individual who is so attracted to what she\u2019s built that he just wants to inject himself into it. That creates a lot of issues for her and it affects how she relates to her team.\u201d<\/p>\n Reyes doesn\u2019t think Soto necessarily needs the promotion to feel vindicated \u2014 it would take her away from her friends in the bullpen, after all \u2014 but there is one answer she thinks her character deserves: \u201cI\u2019m hopeful that she gets to know why<\/em> she was passed up. Sometimes, even though you know the reason, it doesn\u2019t really land well until you figure it out for yourself. Sometimes you feel like you\u2019re going crazy.\u201d<\/p>\n Tuesday\u2019s episode also found Soto defending Morgan to her superiors, and Reyes says that scrutiny will only intensify as the new captain (played by Reba<\/em>\u2018s Steve Howey) settles into his position \u2014 and make no mistake, Soto will \u201calways\u201d have Morgan\u2019s back.<\/p>\n \u201cSoto brought her in, and she knows that she\u2019s taking a big risk by bringing this odd character into the situation,\u201d Reyes says. \u201cSoto sees something in Morgan that someone saw in her, and that\u2019s really important.\u201d<\/p>\n Soto\u2019s relationship with the new captain will likely be contentious, but how will he get along with everyone else? \u201cHe and Karadec develop a powerful working relationship,\u201d Reyes reveals, \u201cand of course he and Morgan are going to clash.\u201d No surprise there. \u201cShe\u2019s going to be a huge challenge to him in terms of why she\u2019s there and how she\u2019s there.\u201d<\/p>\n Soto and Morgan\u2019s bond will also be put to the test in the coming weeks as the mystery of Roman\u2019s disappearance continues to unravel\u2026 quickly, apparently. \u201cI can\u2019t wait for you to see the next few episodes,\u201d Reyes says of the hunt for Morgan\u2019s estranged ex. \u201cYour mouth is going to hang open.\u201d<\/p>\n OK, let\u2019s talk: Are you secretly glad Soto wasn\u2019t promoted, if only to keep her in the same office as Morgan and the gang?
