On Nov. 19, Lainey Wilson will become the first woman to host the CMA Awards<\/a> solo in 34 years. The last was Reba McEntire in 1991. Wilson, during an appearance on this week\u2019s new episode of Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2019s Nashville Now<\/em> podcast, expressed disbelief at that statistic.<\/p>\n \u201cI looked it up too and I was like, there\u2019s no way. I let Reba know I was doing this and she was so excited,\u201d Wilson says. \u201cIt\u2019s been a long time since a woman has done it solo. I\u2019m glad they trust me. I like to run my mouth and I love country music.\u201d<\/p>\n More from Rolling Stone<\/strong><\/p>\n Wilson\u2019s solo turn, however, means that bro hosts Luke Bryan and Peyton Manning, who helmed the show since 2022 (with Wilson joining them last year<\/a>), are out. Wilson says she doesn\u2019t know how CMA producer Robert Deaton broke the news to the guys.<\/p>\n \u201c I have no clue, but I guess Luke ain\u2019t mad at me \u2019cause I\u2019ve talked to him since,\u201d Wilson jokes. \u201cHonestly, he was probably happy to have a year off. And Peyton too, because they\u2019ve been doing that for a while now\u2026. Those guys are such genuine people that I think they\u2019re happy for me. I really do.\u201d<\/p>\n With the awards and live telecast a short six weeks away, Wilson will soon throw herself into rehearsals, both for her performance and her opening monologue. She has one request: Allow her to joke about her country colleagues.<\/p>\n \u201cIf I can poke fun at people, hey, we good,\u201d she says. \u201cI tried to get them to let me do it last year and they were like, \u2018whoa, whoa, whoa\u2026 that\u2019s too far.\u2019 But I go way back with these people. Let me make fun of Luke Combs, please.\u201d<\/p>\n Wilson, who just released the deluxe edition of her album Whirlwind<\/em>, and is set to bring her Whirlwind World Tour to New York\u2019s Madison Square Garden on Friday.
