Taylor Swift<\/a> has broken Adele\u2019s<\/a> streaming-era record with her new album release, chart figures have revealed.<\/p>\n Swift released her 12th studio album \u2018The Life Of A Showgirl<\/a>\u2019 on Friday (October 3), the follow-up to last year\u2019s \u2018The Tortured Poets Department<\/a>\u2019.<\/p>\n Ahead of its release, the album already broke records. As per Rolling Stone<\/i><\/a>, the project surpassed five million pre-saves on Spotify<\/a> \u2013 something that eclipsed the record Swift previously held with her 2024 full-length effort. It is the first album to reach this figure in Spotify history.<\/p>\n Now, it\u2019s been revealed that \u2018The Life Of A Showgirl\u2019 has earned 3.5million album units in the US alone, as per Billboard<\/i><\/a>. Of this total, traditional album sales (physical and digital purchases), equal 3.2million copies, while the remaining 300,000 relate to streaming.<\/p>\n This now surpasses the record previously set by Adele in the opening week of \u201825\u2019 when it debuted with 3.378million copies sold in 2015. Swift\u2019s \u2018Showgirl\u2019 has now secured a new record for the largest week, by equivalent album units, for an album, since the Billboard chart began ranking the most popular albums by equivalent units in 2014.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Swift has addressed the criticism she\u2019s received for her latest album<\/a> after fans have been vocal about their thoughts on the album<\/a> \u2013 with some calling it \u201cher best album\u201d and the return of \u201cpop perfection\u201d, and others declaring it \u201cthe worst Taylor Swift album yet\u201d and \u201cboring and basic\u201d.<\/p>\n In a new chat with Apple Music\u2019s Zane Lowe, Swift has addressed the criticism she\u2019s received for the album. \u201cI welcome the chaos,\u201d she began. \u201cThe rule of show business is if it\u2019s the first week of my album release, and you are saying either my name or my album title, you\u2019re helping.\u201d<\/p>\n She continued: \u201cI have a lot of respect for people\u2019s subjective opinions on art \u2013 I\u2019m not the art police. Everybody is allowed to feel exactly how they want and what our goal is as entertainers is to be a mirror.
