Ariel Winter<\/a> is a modern woman. <\/p>\n After growing up in the spotlight as Alex Dunphy in the hit sitcom \u201cModern Family\u201d,<\/a> Winter, 27, has forged a new path in Hollywood.<\/p>\n Along with landing various acting roles, including the new Apple TV+ animated series, \u201cSisters Grimm,\u201d<\/a> the actress has partnered with Safe from Online Sex Abuse (SOSA)<\/a> to help combat online sexual predation.<\/p>\n Throughout the years, Winter has learned to remain true to herself while exploring her interests.<\/p>\n \u201cI think it\u2019s it\u2019s hard to do for sure because people like to just put you in the character that you were in for so long and they\u2019re like, \u2018Oh, well, you\u2019re just that. And that\u2019s what it is’\u201d the actress exclusively told The Post while promoting \u201cSisters Grimm.\u201d \u201cI see that it\u2019s happened to a lot of us for sure.\u201d<\/p>\n Winter portrayed the middle child on \u201cModern Family\u201d alongside stars Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Sarah Hyland and Nolan Gould.<\/p>\n \u201cI do think I was lucky in the sense that I, maybe was different enough from Alex in the public eye that I got pulled into that box a little bit less than some of my costars,\u201d Winter mused. \u201cWhich I was grateful for. But I don\u2019t know why I was I was lucky enough to have it a little bit differently.\u201d<\/p>\n As for how she was able to break away from her sitcom character, the \u201cKillers\u201d alum credits her ability to beat to her own drum.<\/p>\n \u201cI think I\u2019ve just always done my own thing,\u201d Winter confessed. \u201cI think I\u2019ve just had to in my life. I didn\u2019t have as much guidance as maybe some others did. I kind of was figuring stuff out on my own. I had guidance from like 14 to 18, and my sister was an incredible influence in my life. I had that for sure. But I\u2019ve figured so much stuff out on my own. And it\u2019s been kind of a great thing for me to just feel free enough in the sense to be like, \u2018All right, I\u2019m just going to do this over here and I\u2019m going to do that.’\u201d <\/p>\n The sitcom star, who sold her Los Angeles home and bought a house in Nashville, Tennessee in 2020, added that she has \u201ckind of diversified my life.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI went to high school and then I\u2019ve now gotten into cooking and I do voice acting, and I do this and I do that, and I\u2019m a dog mom, and I\u2019m out here in the public and I\u2019m also not. So I think that that\u2019s kind of helped me.\u201d<\/p>\n Winter also opened up about her former co-star Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, 18, \u2014 who now goes by Frances Anderson \u2014 moving into the music space.<\/p>\n \u201cI love Aubrey so much. And now that she\u2019s Frances Anderson, I really hope that it helps her because she is just so talented and such an amazing person, and she deserves to be taken seriously for the talent that she is showing and working so hard on,\u201d gushed the \u201cSofia the First\u201d vet. \u201cAnd she has that talent and she\u2019s not Lily from \u2018Modern Family\u2019 anymore. She\u2019ll always have that. But that\u2019s not what she\u2019s doing now and she\u2019s killing it.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m proud of her and I really hope that people can see that,\u201d reflected Winter.<\/p>\n These days, Winter is focused on her role as Sabrina Grimm in \u201cSisters Grimm,\u201d which is based off the book series of the same name by Michael Buckley. <\/p>\n The animated series stars two sisters on a quest to solve their parents\u2019 mysterious disappearance, all while dealing with heroes and villains torn straight from fantasy\u00a0and fairy tale lore.<\/p>\n Although Winter didn\u2019t read the books growing up, she became a \u201cfirst time fan\u201d while reading the project\u2019s scripts.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m definitely new to the universe and I loved it. I loved it when I did some research into it. I was so excited because I just think it\u2019s so cool. I love fantasy as well. It\u2019s such a cool universe,\u201d detailed the Gold Derby TV Award winner.<\/p>\n She added, \u201cThere\u2019s so many themes and messages that I feel like are important to share with the world. Instead of just being like a fun fantasy show, like, you have so many things that go with it.\u201d<\/p>\n Winter also revealed some pre-show rituals she does before stepping into the booth.<\/p>\n \u201cI do listen to a true crime podcast every time before I go to record,\u201d she confessed. \u201cI love this true crime podcast called \u2018Psychopedia.\u2019 It\u2019s pretty awesome.\u201d<\/p>\n When Winter isn\u2019t performing, the dog mom spends her free time helping SOSA catch online predators.<\/p>\n Not only has the advocate gone undercover, but she has spoken out about the organization\u2019s important work time and time again.<\/p>\n Winter shared that the work she does \u201chas healed me every time.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cEvery time we assist in arresting somebody, it is so healing,\u201d she elaborated. \u201cIt\u2019s extremely hard work, it\u2019s extremely emotionally taxing. It\u2019s rough. But every time we\u2019re able to do that, like a little piece of me feels like some justice has been served for myself and for everybody that deserves that justice. It absolutely is amazing.\u201d <\/p>\n Winter noted that she has had \u201csuch a career that I have been really so lucky and grateful for. Like I\u2019ve been so grateful in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n But working alongside SOSA takes the cake. <\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s the thing that I\u2019m the most honored for and the most grateful for, because they\u2019re just so kick-ass. That group is so amazing and we\u2019re really doing it. We\u2019re really working with law enforcement and doing it the right way. And and it is so healing. It is so healing.
