Joy Taylor is making it clear that she will never apologize for being smart, capable, and sexy in her profession.<\/p>\n
The sports commentator, who recently parted ways with Fox Sports<\/a>, joined Kayla Nicole on The Pre-Game<\/em> podcast, where they dived into the scrutiny Joy\u2019s faced over her appearance on-air. Around the 12-minute mark, Kayla referenced Joy\u2019s now-famous declaration that she will \u201cnever apologize for being both smart and sexy on TV,\u201d adding, \u201cIf that makes you uncomfortable that is your problem.\u201d<\/p>\n In retrospect, she admitted that she \u201cwasn\u2019t always this way\u201d and explained how important it is \u201cto know where you are in your career, the equity that you have in a certain business, the relationships, the ground that you\u2019ve laid for your skills.\u201d Early on, the 38-year-old <\/a>admitted that she was \u201chyperaware\u201d of \u201ccoming across too sexy,\u201d in the work space and was worried that others might assume she was \u201cleading\u201d with her looks.<\/p>\n \u201cBut I did reach a point in my career where I was like, \u2018Look, I\u2019m not trying to create this persona that is not accurate to who I am,’\u201d she admitted. \u201c\u2018And like, quite frankly, if my body makes you uncomfortable, I don\u2019t know what to f**king tell you.’\u201d<\/p>\n The conversation turned to the double standards that curvier women often face, particularly when it comes to professional attire. \u201cIt\u2019s like nothing about what she\u2019s wearing is inappropriate. Her body just bothers you because you\u2019re a creep,\u201d Kayla said. \u201cIn your mind, that is what a sexy body looks like and therefore it should be covered to not emphasize what her body looks like.\u201d<\/p>\n Joy echoed the sentiment, explaining how the same outfit could be perceived completely differently depending on body type. \u201cSo it looks professional on her [a thinner woman] and it looks unprofessional on me. And also, I\u2019m not an unreasonable person. I\u2019m not popping on television in f**king pasties,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \u201cMe showing up looking like a professional and doing my job and you thinking I\u2019m sexy\u2026that\u2019s you. I\u2019m not doing anything different than anyone else is doing,\u201d she continued. \u201cI\u2019m not doing anything different than what the men are doing. I\u2019m just hotter.\u201d<\/p>\n Joy has faced this type of scrutiny throughout her career, navigating a male-dominated space where her body has often been unfairly sexualized. Even amid media commentary surrounding her alleged involvement in a scandal with FS1 executive Charlie Dixon, she was reduced to her appearance.<\/p>\n Sports commentator Jason Whitlock notoriously described her as having \u201cpeanut butter skin\u201d<\/a> and \u201cbig cans\u201d on multiple occasions, never facing repercussions for his remarks.
