There\u2019s no need for a\u00a0revelio\u00a0<\/em>spell here.<\/p>\n John Lithgow\u00a0has fully stepped into his role as Professor Albus Dumbledore<\/a> on set of the upcoming HBO \u201cHarry Potter\u201d television series. <\/p>\n On Tuesday, the actor, 79, was spotted filming the show while sporting a long, white beard, and an oversized robe. <\/p>\n Lithgow stood on a beach and also donned a pair of glasses, which lay on the bridge of his nose \u2013 true to Dumbledore form.<\/p>\n This marks the first time the star has been spotted filming for the project, which started production in July.<\/p>\n The cast has been shooting around England for the past three months. <\/p>\n Other on location images captured\u00a0Dominic McLaughlin, who plays Harry Potter, and\u00a0Nick Frost, who portrays Rubeus Hagrid.<\/p>\n Lithgow\u2019s casting was first announced in February, with fans immediately approving Hogwarts newest additon.<\/p>\n After Pop Base posted the news to\u00a0X<\/a>, one user wrote: \u201cHe is perfect for the role!\u201d while a second chimed in, \u201cA brilliant actor in drama and comedy, I think he\u2019ll make a great wizard! It would be amazing if the show goes 9 seasons!\u201d <\/p>\n Rounding out the sweet commentary, one follower quipped: \u201cJohn Lithgow as Dumbledore? A magical casting choice for sure.\u201d<\/p>\n Lithgow himself confirmed the news in\u00a0an interview with ScreenRant<\/a>\u00a0at the time.<\/p>\n \u201cIt came as a total surprise to me,\u201d he confessed. \u201cI just got the phone call up at the Sundance Film Festival for yet another film, and it was not an easy decision because it\u2019s going to define me for the last chapter of my life, I\u2019m afraid.\u201d <\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m very excited. Some wonderful people are turning their attention back to\u00a0\u2018Harry Potter,\u2019\u201d continued Lithgow. \u201cThat\u2019s why it\u2019s been such a hard decision. I\u2019ll be about 87 years old at the wrap party, but I\u2019ve said yes.\u201d<\/p>\n The series is set to premiere in 2026 with each season being adapted from one of\u00a0J.K. Rowling\u2019s seven \u201cHarry Potter\u201d books. If the show does one season per year for all seven books, Lithgow would wrap the adaptation in 2033 at age 87.<\/p>\n Dumbledore has a long history of being played by iconic Hollywood vets. In the first two\u00a0\u201cHarry Potter\u201d films, the original professor was portrayed by\u00a0Richard Harris.\u00a0Michael Gambon\u00a0then took over the role after Harris died in 2002. <\/p>\n Jude Law, meanwhile,\u00a0played the younger version of Dumbledore in two\u00a0\u201cFantastic Beasts\u201d\u00a0prequels.<\/p>\n The main trio of Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter, Emma Watson as Hermione Granger and Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley were all from the UK, but Lithgow is American. Casting this time around is much wider than the first eight films.<\/p>\n Along with Lithgow and McLaughlin, HBO\u2019s new\u00a0\u201cHarry Potter\u201d series<\/a>\u00a0cast\u00a0Arabella Stanton\u00a0in the role of Hermione Granger, and\u00a0Alastair Stout\u00a0as Ron Weasley. <\/p>\n \u201cAfter an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron,\u201d the series\u2019 director Mark Mylod and showrunner Francesca Gardiner shared at the time.<\/p>\n \u201cThe talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen,\u201d the pair continued. \u201cWe would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned.
