PASADENA, Calif. \u2014 NBA great\u00a0Magic Johnson\u00a0will preside over the 137th Rose Parade as grand marshal next year.<\/p>\n

The 66-year-old retired Los Angeles Lakers superstar will ride down Colorado Boulevard as part of the 5 1\/2-mile route on Jan. 1.<\/p>\n

    \u201cI\u2019m going to be waving like crazy to all the great fans,\u201d Johnson told the crowd gathered Wednesday on the lawn at Tournament House in Pasadena. \u201cThe Rose Parade is watched even more than the football game. Wow, a lot of pressure.\u201d<\/p>\n

    Johnson said he’s excited to share the experience with his children and grandchildren.<\/p>\n

    \u201cI think I\u2019ll be kind of cool in their eyes,\u201d he said. \u201cThey didn\u2019t watch me play basketball, but they\u2019ll be able to see my in that car.\u201d<\/p>\n

    He follows in the footsteps of Hall of Fame tennis star Billie Jean King, this year\u2019s grand marshal, as part owners of the Los Angeles Dodgers to preside over the parade. He also has ownership interests in the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks, Major League Soccer’s LAFC franchise, the NFL’s Washington Commanders and the NWSL’s Washington Spirit.<\/p>\n
