{"id":2078690,"date":"2025-10-09T05:21:12","date_gmt":"2025-10-09T05:21:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2078690"},"modified":"2025-10-09T05:21:12","modified_gmt":"2025-10-09T05:21:12","slug":"north-east-fringe-events-to-inspire-next-generation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/north-east-fringe-events-to-inspire-next-generation\/","title":{"rendered":"North East fringe events to &#8216;inspire next generation&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">A week of fringe events for the first Mercury Prize ceremony outside of London will inspire the next generation, organisers say.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">The festival of free events around north-east England will kick off on Friday, ahead of the prestigious music industry awards at Newcastle&#8217;s Utilita Arena on 16 October.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">Showcases, workshops and masterclasses will be held on Tyneside, along with venues in Sunderland, Durham and Hexham.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">One of the organisers, Adam MacDonald, from music development agency Generator, said they hoped to create a &#8220;lasting legacy&#8221; by working with &#8220;grassroots emerging artists who are going to be there within the next 10 years, winning that Mercury Prize&#8221;.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">Previously shortlisted artist Paul Smith, from Max\u00efmo Park, will lead a songwriting masterclass in Sunderland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">Meanwhile, a South Shields workshop for neurodivergent youngsters will culminate in a musical performance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">Other events will see shows from &#8220;tomorrow&#8217;s stars&#8221;, including Middlesbrough&#8217;s  Finn Forster.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">Mr MacDonald said his highlight of the &#8220;ambitious&#8221; agenda was the Generator Live Conference, a full day of panels giving a behind-the-scenes insight from the artists and industry leaders.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">He said visitors would be able to see what made the North East music scene so special.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">&#8220;We&#8217;re really friendly.
