The numbers game is typically a Taylor Swift thing, but if you do the math on how long it\u2019s been between new Guns N\u2019 Roses<\/a> albums, we\u2019re due for a new LP from the hard rock icons any day now. At least according to guitarist Slash<\/a>, who in the December issue of Guitar Player<\/em> magazine<\/a> says that the veteran band is hard at work on their long-awaited follow-up to 2008\u2019s Chinese Democracy<\/em>.<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s so much material at this point \u2014 it\u2019s a matter of having the discipline to sit down and f\u2014ing get into it,\u201d said Slash, who teased that a new LP is \u201ccoming\u201d without offering any time frame. \u201cBut the thing with Guns is, in my experience, you can never plan ahead. You can never sit down and go, \u2018We\u2019re going to take this time, and we\u2019re going to do this.\u2019 Every time we\u2019ve done that, it falls apart.\u201d<\/p>\n More from Billboard<\/strong><\/p>\n GNR took 17 years between 1991\u2019s Use Your Illusion<\/em> two-part album and 2008\u2019s Democracy<\/em>, which singer Axl Rose famously labored over for years with a wide variety of musicians that didn\u2019t include any of the original Guns members. Though they released the covers EP The Spaghetti Incident?<\/em> in 1992 in between, the drought since Democracy<\/em> has stretched on for nearly two decades as the semi-reunited band has toured the world several times with a lineup that now (again) includes Slash and original bassist Duff McKagan, as well as longtime keyboardist Dizzy Reed.<\/p>\n In the GW<\/em> chat, Slash also pulled the curtain back a bit on the band\u2019s workflow with legendarily mercurial singer Rose, saying, \u201cIt just spontaneously happens through some sort of inspiration that triggers it. And the next thing you know, it\u2019s off and running,\u201d he said. \u201cSo it\u2019s coming. I know it\u2019s coming because everybody is thinking about it. It\u2019ll just happen when it happens.\u201d<\/p>\n At press time spokespeople for Slash and GN\u2019R had not returned Billboard<\/em>\u2018s request for comment.<\/p>\n Various whispers about a potential new Guns album have bubbled up from time-to-time over the past decade, with McKagan telling Trunk Nation in 2019 that a new album was cooking, saying \u201cOh, it\u2019s real<\/a>, but the fun part and the cool part about Guns N\u2019 Roses is we don\u2019t really talk about it, and what happens next just happens.\u201d<\/p>\n In the interminable interim, fans have had to satisfy their appetite for new Guns music with the studio versions of \u201cAbsurd<\/a>\u201d and \u201cHard Skool<\/a>\u201d in 2021 and \u201cPerhaps<\/a>\u201d in 2023 after debuting them live.
