A week ago, the Golden Globes unveiled its list of the 25 podcasts eligible for the ceremony’s inaugural Best Podcast award, and Gold Derby predictions for the category have already begun to give shape to the race.<\/p>\n

While there’s still plenty of time for the state of the competition to change, the early snapshot does provide an insight into how awards followers are approaching the medium, thus far uncharted territory for the major award shows.<\/p>\n

Amy Poehler<\/strong>, a previous Golden Globe winner for Best Comedy TV Actress in 2014 for Parks and Recreation<\/em> and memorable host alongside her former Saturday Night Live<\/em> pal Tina Fey<\/strong>, is out to an early lead with her podcast Good Hang<\/em>. She currently sits at a 96.7 percent likelihood of a nomination.<\/p>\n

Coming in second, just behind Poehler, are more TV stars. The guys of SmartLess<\/em> (aka Will Arnett<\/strong>, Jason Bateman<\/strong>, and Sean Hayes<\/strong>) are right behind her with 92.4 percent of a nom. Bateman previously won a Globe for his work on Arrested Development<\/em>. Hayes has six nominations, all for Will & Grace<\/em>. And a podcast nomination would be Arnett’s first.<\/p>\n

Rounding out the top six are Call Her Daddy<\/em>, Up First From NPR<\/em>, The Joe Rogan Experience<\/em>, and Pod Save America<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The inclusion of NPR in the category could add an interesting wrinkle from a narrative perspective, as the Trump administration’s withdrawal of federal funding from the broadcaster could activate voters looking to speak with their Globes ballot.<\/p>\n

The one observable trend in the early predictions is a preference for celebrities (with podcasts) over political podcasters. While the likes of Poehler, Arnett, Bateman, Hayes, and Dax Shepard<\/strong> occupy the top 10, pundits like Candace Owens<\/strong>, Tucker Carlson<\/strong>, and Ben Shapiro <\/strong>have been relegated to the bottom of the predictions list.<\/p>\n
