[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for\u00a0Law & Order: SVU<\/em><\/a> Season 27 Episode 3 \u201cA Vicious Circle.\u201d]<\/strong><\/p>\n Heading into the latest\u00a0Law & Order: SVU<\/em> episode, Detective Joe Velasco (Octavio Pisano<\/a>) had already told his captain, Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay<\/a>), of an assignment that took him away from the squad: He was tapped by the DEA to go undercover<\/a> guarding Ramirez\u2019s drug runs, given his experience with cartels. It was something he\u2019d been told to keep even from her. Keep her informed and be careful, she stressed. Well, that went well, but now, he\u2019s running into a new problem in the form of Chief Kathryn Tynan (Noma Dumezweni<\/a>).<\/p>\n Velasco\u2019s back with the squad for the case-of-the-week, but then he tells Benson that Tynan wants to see him. He thinks she heard about what he did for the DEA \u2014 possibly through Detective Jake Griffin (Corey Cott<\/a>), who appears to be her mole<\/a> \u2014 and that\u2019s something Benson should have told her. The captain assures him she can handle herself.<\/p>\n When Velasco goes to see Tynan, DEA agents he\u2019d worked with are there as well. She assures him that there\u2019s nothing to worry about, and she just wants to chat, share feelings, and see if they have the same goals and desires. As she sees it, one of the best parts of her job is helping everyone achieve their mutual goals.<\/p>\n After, Velasco tells Benson that the DEA asked Tynan if they can have him. Yes, it\u2019s for more undercover work \u2014 in San Diego. Tynan thinks it\u2019s a good idea. And what does he think? \u201cI mean, I don\u2019t like the way they went over our heads,\u201d he says, but she knows there\u2019s a \u201cbut.\u201d The guy they\u2019re after is someone who very much needs to be taken down. With Sergeant Odafin \u201cFin\u201d Tutuola (Ice-T<\/a>) out after he was attacked in the premiere<\/a>, he doesn\u2019t want to leave her empty-handed.<\/p>\n \u201cI haven\u2019t stayed with SVU out of loyalty. I would never expect anyone to do that. I\u2019m here because I think that it\u2019s the place I can do the most good. You need to be where you can do the most good,\u201d Benson tells him. Velasco admits that during his last job for the DEA, he didn\u2019t sleep for four nights because he was up, buzzed, excited. She knows he\u2019s going to take the job.<\/p>\n Virginia Sherwood\/NBC<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The episode ends with Velasco visiting a still-recovering Fin \u2014 he holds his side as he sits down, but doesn\u2019t answer the detective\u2019s question about PT \u2014 and recalling their conversation about trying to balance out the scales of the bad things they\u2019d done. He\u2019s realized that when he\u2019s doing the job, he doesn\u2019t think about the scale anymore or himself at all. Fin wonders if he\u2019s going somewhere.
