{"id":2081054,"date":"2025-10-10T04:16:44","date_gmt":"2025-10-10T04:16:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2081054"},"modified":"2025-10-10T04:16:44","modified_gmt":"2025-10-10T04:16:44","slug":"sdsus-new-music-education-masters-degree-is-made-by-teachers-for-teachers-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/sdsus-new-music-education-masters-degree-is-made-by-teachers-for-teachers-news\/","title":{"rendered":"SDSU\u2019s new Music Education master\u2019s degree is made by teachers, for teachers | News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Thursday, October 9, 2025<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p>As a former high school band director of eight years, Associate Professor <strong>Karen Koner <\/strong>understands the struggle of teaching while getting a master\u2019s degree.<\/p>\n<p>Koner, who has taught at San Diego State University\u2019s School of Music and Dance for eight years, conceived the idea for the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/catalog.sdsu.edu\/preview_program.php?catoid=10&amp;poid=11663\">Master\u2019s in Music Education<\/a> (M.M.) because she wanted to create a program teachers could easily fit into their schedules.<\/p>\n<p>Koner obtained two master\u2019s degrees while directing high school band, and said neither program was teacher-friendly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was just really challenging to try to get it all done,\u201d Koner said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I formed this one, I really wanted it to be for teachers \u2015 that they could really do it in their schedules and not feel so stressed,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n<p>Given the high cost of living in San Diego, it was essential to Koner to offer a master\u2019s program that would allow teachers to avoid sacrificing hours at work.<\/p>\n<p>SDSU\u2019s Music Education undergraduate degree is the largest major in the School of Music and Dance, according to Koner.
