It’s been a lively week of entertainment in downtown Wilmington, and it’s not even the weekend yet.<\/p>\n\n

On Tuesday night, Oct. 7, Wilmington celebrated the 177th anniversary of the untimely demise of the writer Edgar Allan Poe at downtown Wilmington hole-in-the-wall Lula’s, a Pub. With dramatic readings of Poe classics like “The Raven” and “The Tell-Tale Heart” \u2014 accompanied by musicians and even an actual fog machine \u2014 it was a fun and literary way to ring in spooky season.<\/p>\n

The Poe event was organized by Lula’s bartender Blaine Byrd, who’s been bringing crowds into Lula’s on Tuesday evenings for the past year or so with his “Tap and Talent” open mic featuring area poets, musicians and comics.<\/p>\n

Another “little” but kind of big event happened on Wednesday night, Oct. 8, at Luna Caffe on Castle Street, which once a month hosts Tiny Caffe, a concert to benefit Nourish NC. Veteran Wilmington indie rockers Summer Set played their laid-back yet rockin’ tunes to an enthusiastic crowd. Very good vibes, so keep your eyes and ears peeled for November’s Tiny Caffe, which is TBA.<\/p>\n\n
