The fusion of Latin music and Afrobeats has hit a new frequency recently, building on a yearslong overlap between the two genres that has now exploded into the mainstream. For Ozuna\u2019s 2023 album, Afro<\/em>, the artist teamed up with Nigerian musicians Davido and Omah Lay. In early 2024, Feid and Afrobeats sensation Rema joined forces on \u201cBubalu,\u201d which topped Billboard<\/em>\u2019s Latin Airplay<\/a> chart. And later that year, Rauw Alejandro\u2019s \u201cSanta\u201d featured Rvssian and Nigerian singer Ayra Starr.<\/p>\n Since then, more Latin acts experimenting with the genre have entered the Billboard<\/em> charts: Shakira\u2019s \u201cSoltera\u201d became her 24th No.\u00a01 on Latin Airplay; Boza and Elena Rose\u2019s flirty \u201cori\u00f3N\u201d hit No.\u00a02 on Latin Pop Airplay<\/a>; and Ozuna scored his 33rd Latin Airplay No.\u00a01 this year with \u201cSirenita.\u201d As Afro Colombian singer-songwriter Gloria \u201cGoyo\u201d Mart\u00ednez \u2014 one of the Latin artists embracing Afrobeats who will speak on the subject at Billboard<\/em>\u2019s Latin Music Week<\/a> later in October \u2014 puts it, \u201cIt\u2019s musically rich\u2026 and it refreshes what was previously happening in the industry with reggaet\u00f3n.\u201d<\/p>\n More from Billboard<\/strong><\/p>\n On her 2025 debut solo album, Pantera<\/em>, Goyo \u2014 who gained fame as part of the Latin Grammy Award-winning group ChocQuibTown \u2014 explored the sounds of Afrobeats by traveling to London to work with some of the genre\u2019s expat producers, such as Afro\u00a0B on the track \u201cDiana.\u201d \u201cThe sound of our collaboration is more Ugandan,\u201d says Goyo, 43. \u201cAfrobeats has many currents, and I had the opportunity to bring several of those sounds that are within the genre to my project.\u201d<\/p>\n Kapo spent 15 years trying to make it in music, but after visiting The Bob Marley Museum in Jamaica, his vision clicked. \u201cAfter that visit, I worked on \u2018Ohnana,\u2019\u00a0\u201d the Colombian artist recalls of his 2024 hit. \u201cI was in a vibe and in another tune with my vocal tones.\u201d The feel-good Afrobeats song scored him his first Billboard<\/em> chart entry, peaking at No.\u00a030 on the Billboard Global Excl.\u00a0U.S.<\/a> chart in 2024. Since, the 27-year-old has remained a force on the charts, earning entries on Top Latin Albums<\/a>, Hot Latin Songs<\/a> and Latin Airplay, among others.<\/p>\n Venesti, 30, scored his first Billboard<\/em> chart entry when \u201cNecesidad\u201d debuted on Latin Rhythm Airplay<\/a> in 2022. However, it was his Afrobeats-influenced \u201cUmaye\u201d that earned the Colombian artist his first No.\u00a01 on the Latin Rhythm Airplay and Latin Airplay charts in 2023.
