If anyone can reason with the protesters who may gather outside the venues where he\u2019ll be performing next week, it\u2019s Idan Raichel.<\/p>\n

Talk about going out of the frying pan into the fire. Israel\u2019s preeminent purveyor of genre-crossing melodic singer-songwriting, Idan Raichel<\/a>, is leaving the turmoil of protests, uncertainty, and frayed nerves in his homeland to take the BDS movement head on with a series of performances throughout the US.<\/p>\n

Although not as aggressively problematic as Europe, where Israeli artists have canceled shows or been canceled due to possible security threats, the US noisy minority can also make it very uncomfortable for Israeli performers.<\/p>\n

For Raichel, 48, the specter of demonstrations outside the showcase City Winery venues, where he\u2019ll be performing in New York, Philadelphia, Chicago and Boston next week, isn\u2019t daunting. He will be doing a solo show called \u201cIdan Raichel Piano Songs \u2013 Music and Storytelling, Stripped to Solo Keys.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI see myself first and foremost as an Israeli and then an Israeli artist,\u201d Raichel told The Jerusalem Post<\/em> recently.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m bringing with me the weight of our beloved country. And yes, there will be people who will protest and try to shut us up. Way back in the early days, the BDS movement<\/a> would call to boycott me outside shows abroad. I used to go outside with a tray of cookies and tea and start a dialogue,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
