This puts a spanner into the works.\u2019 He\u2019s a very duty-driven man, so he knows his rights and wrongs. When he sees [the crosses], he knows what it means. Because if he were to ignore that call, that would have had major repercussions in that time. To go against your clan, to go against your laird, was essentially to put yourself in exile or at [the risk of] punishment of death, essentially.\u201d<\/p>\n
Roy continues, \u201cYou go from the happiest point in his life, where he thinks, \u2018Okay, I\u2019m free of my dad. I\u2019m free of all these other things that have been holding me down. I\u2019m with the one that I love.\u2019 And then to see these crosses is really quite harrowing, I think, in his mind.\u201d<\/p>\n
No matter where Brian goes next, actress Harriet Slater\u2014who plays Ellen\u2014confirms that Ellen will stand by him as a Fraser herself rather than a MacKenzie. \u201cI think she loves this man, and I think she realizes that she cannot trust her brothers at all,\u201d Slater says. \u201cThey\u2019ve betrayed her over and over and over again.\u201d She mentions a particular scene in the finale where Ellen gives her brother Colum the opportunity to confess that he hired assassins to kill Brian, but he refuses to admit it. \u201cHe lies again to her face,\u201d Slater continues. \u201cAnd I think that\u2019s the moment where she decides, \u2018You\u2019re no family of mine. According to Irvine, \u201cfor season 2, the writers have really upped the game. We’ve got even better scripts this season.\u201d <\/p>\n
Roy agrees. \u201cThe story, I think, is even better than season 1,\u201d he says. \u201cI think people have a lot to look forward to.
