(<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wsfa.com\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"\" title=\"http:\/\/www.wsfa.com\">WSFA<\/a>) &#8211; Montgomery\u2019s downtown entertainment district is still open, but with new rules in place. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">As of Tuesday, the open container ordinance has been suspended, meaning residents and visitors may no longer carry alcoholic beverages throughout the district.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">City leaders voted unanimously Tuesday night to suspend the ordinance following the tragic events on Saturday, Oct.4.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cMontgomery is a safe city, but the events of last weekend have led us to take a closer look at our open container ordinance,\u201d said Mayor Steven L. Reed. \u201cWe owe it to our residents and visitors to ensure that our entertainment districts remain secure and vibrant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Licensed restaurants and bars will continue to offer outdoor seating, and patrons can still enjoy alcoholic beverages within those designated areas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The city also wants to remind the public that loitering is not permitted downtown. This rule is part of a broader effort to maintain a safe environment for those who live, work, and visit downtown Montgomery.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The change applies only to the downtown entertainment district. Ordinances in other Montgomery entertainment zones, such as Cottage Hill and Cloverdale, remain unaffected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cMontgomery has always shown strength in the face of adversity,\u201d Reed added. \u201cWe will care for the victims and their families, and we will remain strong. Our city has a history of resilience, and we will continue moving downtown, our entire city, and our region forward\u2014together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The City Council announced plans to consider a citywide youth curfew, with discussions scheduled for the Oct. 17 council meeting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\"><i>Not reading this story on the WSFA News App?
