MSNBC\u2019s<\/span><\/a> Joe Scarborough<\/a> didn\u2019t<\/span> have many nice things to say<\/span><\/a> Friday morning about the way Rep.<\/span> Mike Johnson (R-La.)<\/span><\/a> is handling the current<\/span> government shutdown,<\/span><\/a> going scorched Earth on the House Speaker with a brutal five-minute tirade.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

It all started when \u201cMorning Joe\u201d co-host<\/span> Mika Brzezinski<\/span><\/a> introduced a C-SPAN clip from Thursday showing a call from<\/span> a military spouse begging Johnson to pass a bill<\/span><\/a> that would allow American servicemen and women to continue to get paid even if the shutdown continues.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Although Johnson offered his sympathy to the women and other military families also at risk, he blamed the shutdown on Senate Democrats. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

That triggered the rant from Scarborough, a former GOP member of Congress.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Scarborough accused Johnson of lying \u201ceffortlessly\u201d and argued that he was leaving out some essential details.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cDemocrats have a plan to make sure the military is paid, to make sure that that woman gets the help and the support, and those children get the help and support that they need,\u201d Scarborough said. \u201cAnd Republicans are blocking it.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cDon\u2019t believe me? Ask [Rep.] Elise Stefanik [R-N.Y.], who is also putting a bill on the floor to stop Mike Johnson from blocking payments to the military,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Scarborough also noted that servicemembers who may be Republicans are seeing \u201ca Republican House, a Republican Senate, a Republican White House, a Republican-dominated Supreme Court\u201d all blocking the path to getting paid.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

He said the solution for Johnson is very simple. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cPick up the phone right now, call Elise Stefanik, \u2018Elise, we\u2019re going to vote. I\u2019m going to call everybody back in and we\u2019re going to vote on your bill today.\u2019 And it would pass,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Scarborough then argued that Johnson isn\u2019t telling voters the real reason for the shutdown \u2015 and its initials are<\/span> \u201cJ.E.\u201d:<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cMike Johnson shut down Congress and sent his members home because he didn\u2019t want them talking about the Epstein files,\u201d Scarborough said. \u201cMike Johnson<\/span> will not swear in a Democrat, democratically elected congresswoman,<\/span><\/a> because that will be the deciding vote on a discharge petition to have the Epstein files released.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The aforementioned Democrat is Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva (D-Ariz.), who won a special election last month to fill her late father\u2019s House seat and has already said she\u2019d sign the discharge petition. Johnson has drawn criticism from many sides due to the head-scratching delay in swearing her in. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cHe won\u2019t do it. He won\u2019t let her get sworn in,\u201d Scarborough said. \u201cAnd now he\u2019s claiming he can\u2019t do anything to have the military be paid. He can. He can call Elise Stefanik today, and then he can call his friends over in the Senate.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Scarborough claimed other Republican politicians are \u201cstarting to feel the pressure\u201d and \u201cwant to actually go back to Washington and work.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cThese GOP members are hearing from their constituents who are coming up and saying, wait, wait a second, congressman, you\u2019re getting paid, I don\u2019t know, $160,000 a year, you got, like, Cadillac health care insurance and you\u2019re not working, but you\u2019re getting paid. And here I am working on the military base, and I can\u2019t support my family. You\u2019re not paying me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

As Scarborough put it, \u201cThat\u2019s just not \u2014 it\u2019s not a winning formula.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
