of his security arrangements for visits to the UK, following reports that a \u201cknown stalker\u201d came \u201cwithin feet\u201d of <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/prince-harry\">Prince Harry<\/a> on two separate occasions during his last visit to the UK.<\/p>\n<p>A source close to the duke confirmed Prince Harry wrote to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/home-secretary\">home secretary<\/a> Shabana Mahmood shortly after her appointment and submitted a formal request for a risk assessment to the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec), which operates under the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/home-office\">Home Office<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to <em>The Telegraph<\/em>, the \u201cknown stalker\u201d breached a \u201csecure zone\u201d at a central <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/london\">London<\/a> hotel where the duke attended the WellChild Awards on 9 September.<\/p>\n<p>She was subsequently spotted near him two days later at the Centre for Blast Injury Studies in west London and is said to have come \u201cwithin feet\u201d of the Duke of <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/sussex\">Sussex.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The duke\u2019s appeal against the dismissal of his <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/high-court\">High Court<\/a> claim concerning the level of taxpayer-funded protection he receives in the country was rejected in May. <\/p>\n<p>The source clarified that the letter to Ms Mahmood was dispatched prior to these two security incidents occurring in September.<\/p>\n<p>After losing the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/court-of-appeal\">Court of Appeal<\/a> challenge, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/uk\/home-news\/prince-harry-interview-king-charles-security-highlights-b2744254.html\">the duke said in a TV interview he \u201ccan\u2019t see a world in target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/bbc\">BBC<\/a> he would ask then <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/home-secretary\">home secretary<\/a> <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/yvette-cooper\">Yvette Cooper<\/a> to \u201clook at this very, very carefully\u201d, and warned that the royal family\u2019s power over security means it \u201ccan be used to control\u201d family members.<\/p>\n<p>He also said he would ask prime minister Sir <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/keir-starmer\">Keir Starmer<\/a> to \u201cstep in\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The legal challenge came after Harry and the Duchess of Sussex left the UK and first moved to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/canada\">Canada<\/a>, and then <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/california\">California<\/a>, after announcing they wanted to step back as senior royals.<\/p>\n<p>In a summary of the ruling, judge Sir Geoffrey Vos
